Reset 3com SuperStack 3 (model 3C16465C, no reset hole, no console port)
I have a 3Com switch that is going to the recyclers, and needs to be wiped (company requirement). No console port, no idea what IP address it has, no reset holes. Model3C16465C - looks like this one below. Anyone know how to wipe/factory reset this thing?
As appealing as it may be, I'd rather avoid kinetic wiping if possible...
Advantages of Always On VPN over DirectAccess
PSA: This Spiceworks post is heavily supported (and pulls directly from) this blog post by Richard Hicks, the guru on all things Always On VPN, DirectAccess and NetMotion Mobility.
Windows 10 Always On VPN is similar to DirectAccess by providing remote network access, but the mechanics of how they are delivered and managed are fundamentally different. Now, Always On VPN is a Windows 10 feature, so you may be restricted to using DirectAccess (or a third party like NetMotion). But, if you have the option between the two programs, there are three big advantages outlined by Hicks:
- No More NLS
A Network Location Server (NLS) is used for inside/outside detection by DirectAccess clients. By design, the NLS is reachable by DirectAccess machines only when they're on the internal network. If the NLS is offline or unreachable for any reason at...

Slower upload speed wired connection
Hello guys,
I have two NETGEAR GS478T switches on my network. The download speed is around 100Mbps and upload upto 90Mbps via Wi-Fi pretty stable. When my switches are connected to the network upload speed drops to 30Mbps with fluctuations during the time but download speed still remains high at about 100Mbps. Could anyone help me with how I could improve upload speed in my cable network?
Thanks
Richard
Broadcast Storms - advice
Hello Spicers.
So last week, just before heading home, i was told the entire network was down. No access to anything.
Panic stations. This was a broadcast Storm.
After numerous hours of hunting, with help from a network wizard, we found the switch port getting hit, (a cisco 2690) and traced this back to 2 daisy chained netgear switches which provided connectivity for 2 multi function printers and a computer build station. This setup had been in place for along time. There may have been 1 or 2 laptops connected to the switch at the start of the storm, but were disconnected soon after, but the storm remained.
The network is back up, and printers working fine.
Im now blaming the switches, but they are just dummy switches. Could hardware fault from these cause my network to fail ? Can storms be prevented ?
Im not a network tech at all. Any...
Creating VLAN
We currently have 2 VLANs setup ID 1 and ID 2. I would like to create a new VLAN. Im currently logged into the HP procurve switch web gui. I can see how to create it but do I have to do create the same VLAN on all switches or can I just it on the one? How do I define the IP subnet this new VLAN is associated with so it gets a new IP range when the device is plugged in
cheers.
VLAN Issue
We utilize a private cloud based application using the Chrome browser. We are experiencing intermittent issues where the user receives "The site cannot be reached" error that further says that the site "took too long to respond" and that the "request was sent but a response was not received in time" ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT
te issue initially seemed to only impact users at
We first thought it was a DNS issue because if we changed the primary DNS server of the workstation to the Primary DC on the main VLAN (x.x.13.x) We added conditional forwarders to the DNS server for the website and it seemed to work better. The frequency of it happening was less but it still happened. It is only mpacting users on VLAN 2 and VLAN 3.
Now I am thinking it is an Intra-VLAN routing issue.
The only other thing we have found is that when it occurs, completely...
Uplink Switches Over Ethernet
I have a Netgear GS752TXS and a Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch 48 Lite that I need to temporarily link together via Ethernet cable (not SFP). Is this possible using the standard 1Gbps ports or will it only work using the dedicated 10Gbps SFP uplink ports? Currently if I connect the two over Ethernet, it kills the internet connection but I'm not sure if this is just due to improper configuration or physical incompatibility.
Strange IPv6 issues
Hello,
I run a small Active Directory environment, I have recently noticed some strange activity across the network which has me baffled. Essentially any client which connects to the network is obtaining a IPv6 address starting with fdb4:: (Not a link local IPv6). I immediately checked the most obvious causes such as DHCPv6 and I can confirm that there is no active DHCPv6 servers on the network.
At this point I decided to monitor the IPv6 packet activity on the network and have found the cause. Some clients are using Neighbor Solicitation, from this point the clients all receive the fdb4 prefix. I have fully reinstalled these clients but they still exhibit this behaviour. I would also like to quickly point out that other clients which are non-windows also exhibit this behaviour.
Does any one have any idea how to combat this issue?
Thanks...
Inter vlan communication in HP
Hi,
I have a nerwork with several VLANs. Every vlan is configured successfully and works very well for the intial demand. But today i need to be able to access one vlan from the Administrative vlan in order to manage security cameras. So i configured the security cameras Vlan to fully access the administrative vlan and works fine. But for security reasons i wanted to limite the security cameras vlan access to the administrative Vlan. Any advice to accomplish this?
I have HP L3 switchs.

Laboratory Balance through Serial to Ethernet issues.
Okay, so this might be a bit of a novel, however:
I work in a compounding pharmacy as the Network Systems Specialist.
We have a lab full of technicians who work through compounding software that requires a balance (scale) to be configured to the PC. We also work out of a centralized server that manages the scale connections. so, breakdown goes as such...
User logs in to physical computer using Technician Credentials. GPO starts Eltimas Serial to Ethernet to allow the scale to talk to central server. User logs in to central server with technician credentials and opens compounding software.
Config on Physical computer is: Scale goes 9pin to 9pin (Serial running into COM 1) BAUD, Parity, Bits etc are all correct per scale settings.
Config in SEC is: A Virtual Com Port assigned by SEC on Physical Machine communicates through to Central Server...

Setting Up VLANS with HP/Netgear/Cisco
Hi all, I'm currently working on revamping the network at my part time job and could use some help. We are going from 1 subnet to many. Here's what I have so far:
1 x Cisco RV320 Router/FW
2 x HP1920S Switches
1 x Netgear GS752TPS Switch
It's a slightly mixed environment - we're an NPO, gotta work with what I got...
Here's what I've done so far:
On the Cisco RV320 I configured the following VLANS:
VLAN1 (Admin) - 192.168.1.0 /24 - LAN 1 Port
VLAN2 (LAN) - 192.168.2.0 /24 - LAN 2 Port
VLAN3 (Voice) - 192.168.3.0 /24 - LAN 3 Port
VLAN4 (Public WiFi) - 192.168.4.0 /24 - LAN 4 Port
Now I could run run a cable from each port into it's own dedicated switch and not worry about anything else, which I might end up doing. But I want to see if I can configure this a little more efficiently.
I'd like to run each switch where it can auto assign a device based...
Plugs for GMP tool
Hi!
I got a GMP
Modular Plug Presser
with #8 die for making Ethernet cables. What are the best plugs to use with it? GMP offers some but are there better ones? I need to make some Ethernet connections and I'll be using

One office modem/router split across another router?
Hi guys,
I may be moving into a small office soon that is part of another office. I still need to check if the ISP will be able to put another separate modem in so I can run my own internet plan, but if not, what's the best way (avoiding a high end firewall /VLANS) to connect up my own router to their current combo router/modem and have my own subnet that they cannot access?
Here's what I'm thinking, but not sure it will be successful:
- Buy my own router and plug it into an available lan port on the current router/modem.
- Configure a different subnet (if they are using 192.etc , maybe use 10.etc , though I'm not sure if that will prevent communication to the main router to bring the WAN connection in)
I'd rather be as non-intrusive as possible to their hardware, so I'm not really looking into bridging the modem and going from there.
Will...

What is your idea/opinion about laying Data Cables next to Electrical Cable
What is your idea/opinion about laying Data Cables next to Electrical Cable.
I've been told by a number of people that this does not matter, because it depends on building infrastructure and to the few who said yes it does matter because of latency and other things that will cause the system to become unresponsive in a way.
What's your idea/opinion about this?
Windows 10 clients do not renew DHCP lease without reboot.
Fellow Spicers,
At the office of one my clients, I have the following problem:
Every day between 9:15AM and 9:30AM they lose internet connectivity one there desktops.
In the bottom right corner you'll see the icon that there is network connection with the yellow triangle.
They have to reboot the machine in order to regain internet connectivity.
My guess is that there is a problem with DHCP.
They run one domain controller which is a Windows 2016 Standard server.
Besides that, they have a Firewall (but that doesn't do DHCP)
They recently changed there internet speed at there ISP and they got a new modem. I've already asked the ISP if they could confirm if this the modem is in bridge mode, they confirmed this to me.
Any suggestions?
F5 website failover
I'm asking this question because I don't know the technical terms and need a simplified explanation of what I'm trying to accomplish. We use an F5 load balancer/proxy. Version: BIG-IP 12.1.0 Build 1.0.1447 Hotfix HF1
Requirements: When http://server1.mycorp.com (intranet) becomes unavailable for two minutes, the F5 will then start directing all intranet traffic to http://server2.mycorp.com:8080 (intranet).
Can someone direct me to a walkthrough to set something like this up?
