I have a Netgear N600 WNDR3400 v1. My cousin just bought the new Apple Time Capsule (802.11ac). Though I never used one before, the TC is now the main router. I tried for an hour to get my Netgear to repeat the TC signal, but it just wasn't working.
Before I put in any more effort here's what I've done so far to the Netgear:
(Putting it into repeater mode)
- Changed the channel from "auto" to whatever static value for both the A/G band and the B/G/N band.
- Changed the SSID and made it hidden (can't put any type of security on it - not even WEP - so I made it a hidden SSID) for both bands.
- Changed it to Repeater Mode and put in the TC's wifi 2.4ghz MAC address for the base station it's supposed connect to and repeat. Also changed the IP address of the Netgear to a myriad of different IP's to try to get it to work.
It's almost as if the Netgear just doesn't want to connect to the TC. Am I missing something or is this not possible?
Note: I really don't care for Apple products nor am I into "I'm a PC/MAC" debates. I'm just curious if this is doable and what I'm doing wrong.
Update/resolution:
Even though there was a Best Answer (thank you Ken5817) there was a minor yet crucial adjustment I had to make.
Steps:
- Reset Netgear router to factory defaults.
- Connected Netgear router to TC via lan port to lan port.
- Named the Netgear SSID the same as the TC with the same passkey and put them on the same channel.
- ?
- Profit.
When I was testing my XBOX Live connection it stated that there were multiple connections with that SSID name. It didn't matter. Attached are the XBL results. I really don't care about the NAT error, because XBL is finicky with that ish anyway.
