DNS forward zone for Exchange 2010 Certificate-breaks Ext site

I'm a bit confused about my DNS. Currently we're running Exchange 2007. I have Exchange 2010 running (but no mailboxes yet) Prior to moving mailboxes to the new Exchange 2010 Server I want to get a new certificate.

I know that cannot include our internal domain name .local like in the past, so I figured I'd use a form of split DNS.

Our website is hosted with Hostgator. When I created a new forward zone on our internal DNS server, users our website become inaccessible.

I have since removed the zone and things are working again.

I know the IP of the website, (what Hostgator told me) and figured I should create the zone then create an A record with the public IP of the website but if I enter the IP of the website http://www.1.1.1.1 it doesn't work.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
