To make a long and painful story short, we recently had a user plug two RJ-45 outlets together, thus creating a loop in the Ethernet backbone and quite a mess shortly thereafter. My question is this: does anyone have any "best practices" methods of configuring the network infrastructure to minimize and possibly isolate the damage caused by this kind of "user trick"? Also, does anyone have any neat tools or other methods of locating this kind of problem quickly?
