How do I set up multiple external IP Addresses with Fortigate 80c

I have a Fortigate 80c, Uverse connection and 5 static IP addresses. Right now I am assigning Wan1 to one of the IP addresses. It works great, but I want to utilize the other 4 IP addresses. I realize that most of the work comes from utilizing virtual IPs. I have that set up, but Uverse only recognizes the one IP address that I have Wan1 configured as. How do I set up WAN1 so that all IPs will flow through to the virtual IP config. Do I use the external gateway address? I try to add more than one interface, or secondary IP address and I get "IP address is in same subnet as the others." I think that's what I want, so I'm not sure why it's complaining. I have the IP address on Wan1 as x.x.x.x/255.255.255.248
