Questions about switch stacking

We're looking at upgrading our existing stack of 3Com 4400s and I have a few questions about stacking.

-It was my understanding that using stack kits to connect switches had several benefits. One was that communication between the individual switches was faster/better because it was done on the stack bus internally vs. over an uplink cable. Two was that management was all done on 1 interface instead of on each individual stack. Are these benefits correct?

-One of the switches we're looking at (Meraki MS) indicates it uses virtual stacking with no modules, cables or otherwise to accomplish the stack. That would indicate to me that this stacking would provide the management benefit but would not provide the internal communication benefit. Is this correct?

-Our network is relatively simple with 55 employees on View VDI and 20 VM servers all on the same subnet. No ISCSI storage or anything going on. We're looking at the new switches to boost desktop speeds and provide for VOIP. If the above virtual stacking switch doesn't provide the communication benefit of stacking using modules and cables, how important is it that these switches aren't stacked in the traditional sense of the word? Has stacking using modules and cables become obsolete at Gb speeds and does everyone just use an uplink cable?

Lastly...does anyone have experience with the Meraki MS42? It sure looks tempting if I can get the $$ approved.
