I've dropped a HP Pro Curve onto a network and not set its IP - question

A mad weekend replacing an old network cabinet with a new larger one that has cable management. A 48 port switch started screaming and I had a HP Pro 1810 24 boxed that was due to be tested with a view to getting 3 of them to do a scheduled replacement of the Netgear 48 port switch.

In a bit of a panic I dropped in our standby 3Com 24 port + the new HP in. All lights came on and worked. There were lots of other things going on at the same time, so didn't think twice about it. I was doing a couple of pings and noticed a host unreachable was coming back via a 10.0.0.89, so assumed the HP had picked that up as a DHCP'd IP address.

I am now offsite and have slept and thought I should log in to the switch and set it up properly and if I like it buy the other 2. Trouble is I look at the manual and it says it statically takes on 192.168.2.10.

Normally for switches and routers, this is simply set a static IP on my laptop and plug into the device, but now I'm 250 miles away. I tried setting up a custom VPN connection via the router, but it won't let me set the inbound connections IP address outside the range of the router.

So I have a couple of Q's:

- will this cause a problem with the operation of the switch during normal operation for the next few days till I get down there?

- We are having a problem with park on our phone system, this is where you park a caller using a button on the phone or phone manager. I spoke to the phone maintainer and they said it relied on multicast and had anything changed on the NW. Is Multicast on the IP or lower level and will the switch having an out of range ip address cause multi-cast to fail?

Thanks a lot for the input. I thought after the electricians had done the heavy lifting to literally cut out the old box and drop in the new one, that it would take me a few hours to do the 35 seats + 35 phones, but as I wanted to ensure my map of patch numbers to users to positions on the switches was correct + switch failure + a couple of cabling issues, I was there all weekend :-(.
