My gateway died!!

This morning whilst troubleshooting a strange noise coming from my 6 year old Astaro Security Gateway, it stopped working. It went down and took our internet and ethernet phones with it. I fought with it for awhile before finally giving into the fact that it's probably never going to work again. We were thinking about replacing it anyway.

I had a Cisco router that I patched in temporarily, but we're still having issues. Our phones and some of the computers are back online, but many of them aren't. I haven't figured out the pattern yet.

We're a non-profit school, so I have a vendor who helps us find used equipment and refurbishes them for us. He happened to have a Fortigate 60 on hand for us to try out. He sent it over about an hour ago.

I have tons of questions I need answered, but my first is this: Does anyone know how to reset a Fortigate 60 (or why I'm not able to connect to it)? I plug it in to my laptop, and go to the IP specified in the manual, but I get nothing.

Details:

Astaro Security Gateway 110/220 used to be the internet gateway, firewall, web filter, and handle some basic anti-malware stuff.

Server: Windows 2008 R2 handles DHCP, DNS, printer/file sharing, and the like.

We have a cable modem, 3 NetGear switches, 2 Aerohive APs, just the 1 server, and about 50 machines on our network.
