I'm trying to figure out the best way to test SNMP. I work in a large enterprise environment. A group doing device monitoring with a SNMP-based tool sends me a list of device (names) that are "not repsonding". I am to figure out why they don't. I do not have access to the groups monitoring tool.
In some cases its a config issue or a firmware update on the device - but in most cases I test Device Uptime using Paessler SNMP Tester and it would seem to be working. My test is from a "test" box and not the trap destination(s). But I don't know how to test and troubleshoot a SNMP device I don't a have access to.
Using Paessler (or something similar) - Is there some kind of Scan Script that I can kick off from the "test server" that will remote test SNMP traffic from the monitored device (IP) to the trap destinations?
Any advice would be will come ... short of breaking into the device monitoring tool. ;)
