I've got a remote site that uses a VPN to connect back to HO.
We have Lotus Notes, so this is mostly used to connect to the email server at HO with their SMB server allowing email replication to happen, and staff to get faster access to their email locally.
They also run on their own domain, a legacy from when we took over the site (it is very small, less than 10 staff). It would make a lot of administrative sense if they could be on the same domain - or to find a better way for them to share files with HO, have the same AD logon for both sites to allow them to move more freely with laptops etc as many regularly have work days from HO. I would also like them to be able to print to HO and HO to be able to print to them - useful for various reasons (we sort of do this already, but the setup makes it unreliable)
The server is real old at that site so there is potential to replace that, or get rid of it all together.
What would you recommend? Should they be on the same domain? What are the implications? I would swap them all onto our domain and make them VPN to us instead of having a server onsite if the internet connection was so slow in that area (best I could get after a recent upgrade was 8Mbps/1Mbps).
The main thing here is that this site is unlikely to grow, and their existence is in question anyway. Anything I do here has to be able to be reused at HO if the office is closed (the staff would probably remain in this scenario, this is more about 'fit for purpose' re: office)
Thanks,
