Big home networking issue..... Possibly DNS?

Hi all,

I'm having a very painful and hard to diagnose issue with my network at home.

Here is the basic layout:

Router - Linksys RV082

Switch - Dell Powerconnect 5424

Virtual host - Poweredge 2950

2 domain controllers (server 2008 r2), both virtual machines. One has DHCP

THE PROBLEM:

Whenever I open (or try to open) a website, it sticks on "Resolving Host" or the browser equivalent for a long time. 5, 10, 20, 30 sec. It is excruciatingly painful.

WHY I THINK IT'S DNS

I have one VM on it's own nic, seperated completely from the rest of the traffic, and using the router as DNS. It works perfectly.

WHAT HAVE I TRIED:

I've tried a different router, tried a different switch (Basic netgear 8-port gig switch), tried going directly to the router, put my dns servers on a different NIC.

WHAT HAS CHANGED IN MY ENVIRONMENT:

I demoted an old Server 2003 DC (wasn't holding fsmo roles) and removed it from the environment. I cleaned up the old metadata. I then put in place its replacement, a 2008r2 VM.

Please help :( I'm not sure how to go about troubleshooting further, what to look at, or anything.

Thanks
