Very odd issue

My network in my apartment all runs through my FiOS router. I have troubleshooted this already and will let you know what I did but I'm more curious to know if anyone else has ever experienced this. I had FiOS installed a couple months ago and now that I think about it at least a month ago I started having some weird issues. I use powerline adapters in my apartment to route my main switch in the living room to the FiOS router. The switch is a Trendnet 8-port Gigabit Green switch. Unmanaged. Nothing fancy but it suits what I need.

Anyways, an undetermined time ago, but probably 5-6 weeks ago, I started having a weird issue. My Xbox was the only thing plugged into this switch at the time but I would power it on and it wouldn't have a connection to Xbox Live. Odd. However, if I powered it off, changed the port the line from the Xbox ran from to on the switch and changed the other cable at the other end to a different port on the router, I had connectivity. Really makes no sense but that always fixed it. I had thought maybe the switch was going bad. I thought maybe the cables were bad. I tried changing cables, switches, and nothing permanently fixed it.

Well, the issue came to a head on Friday. No matter what I did I couldn't get a connection. At this point, I had my desk phone (Yealink SIP-T20P) plugged into the same switch and it wouldn't get a connection either. I checked all the router settings and nothing was wrong. The weirdest part of this whole thing is that the wireless has had ZERO issues. My laptop never drops the connection, never has any issues, etc.

I called Verizon tech support. I had troubleshooted everything and done everything except factory restore the router. Even when I had plugged my laptop directly into the router, it wouldn't get a connection so I had ruled out all the middlemen. I factory restored it and suddenly it started working. That lasted all of about 15 minutes. I called Verizon back and they are sending me a new router.

Again, through all this, my wireless has been flawless. I see it often where the wireless craps out but the physical connections are fine. I've never seen it the other way around though. So it's Saturday afternoon and they are saying it's going to be 1-2 business days before I have my replacement. That means either today or tomorrow. Now I can at least use my laptop for work but that would mean no Xbox Live for several days!! (I live alone, okay? I need something to keep me busy!)

Thankfully, I had several months ago bought a WNCE2001 (Netgear) refurbished from Newegg. I ran my switch to the device (takes physical connections and converts them to wireless) and it has been running perfectly through that. No lag while gaming or streaming video and it saved my bacon!!

But in any case, has anyone ever had this happen to them with a FiOS router or any device where the wireless was fine and the physical connections were dead?

Thanks,

A.J.
