Can't port forward on a SOHO wireless router on a Time Warner cable account

Trying to help a small, 4-person non-profit running SBS 2008.

Last summer they switched to Time Warner Cable internet. TWC supplied their modem, running NAT with DHCP turned on and the IP range was the same as what her SBS 2008 server was giving out.

Their Linksys E2500 Advanced Dual-B wireless router continued to correctly port forward for terminal services and SMTP.

Then, right after Christmas the wireless router died. They got a Netgear WNDR3400v3, I connected it up and the networks clashed.

I wound up changing her IP scheme from 192.168.1.x to .5.x and let her SBS 2008 continue doing DHCP and all seemed well. Except it turns out there was no terminal server access, (nor SMTP traffic; long story but email was being delivered from a 3rd party.)

Anyway, I've set up port forwarding in the Netgear to no avail.

The WAN port is getting an IP of 192.168.1.2 and default gateway of .9 from the cable modem. I haven't worked with cable internet in this kind of scenario, so I'm not sure how the older router was able to route properly - or what to do to this one to enable port forwarding.

I did read something that hinted that for this router the forwarding only works over the wireless, not Ethernet. Does that sound plausible?

Sorry for the long read, and I'm sure I've left out something that matters. But any help is always appreciated!
