So what's up with SMB 2.0/3.0?

We've been having tons of trouble, I mean loads, with one of our clients new servers we set up.

I'm talking slow load times, missings network scans, networked programs just being slow, laggy, and crashing, the works.

I've been jumping all over trying to fix each issue when I stumbled across "disabling SMB". I was hesitant because it seemed to be working for others but it boggled me as to why something that technically should benefit a server was in fact hindering it....so we didn't immediately make the change and it was awful.

Just this past weekend I tried it, I wanted to see what happened. The majority of the problems went away and everyone was happy and I'm a little upset I wasted time trying to fix things. I want to know why SMB was causing these issues to begin with and how I can fix the problems without disabling SMB!

Now my question is, what's the best way of going about troubleshooting SMB? Microsoft clearly states to not disable this "feature" long term. But we did....and everything is great....Has anyone dealt with this?
