Best way to restructure a server room

We had an outsourced IT company that handled all the switches, servers and routers in the server room. This has recently all been handed to me, and the current setup is very confusing the way they structured it before. From information that I could gather, I was told that there were multiple add-ons to the original setup.

What makes this worse is that the person from the outsourced company who set it up no longer works there, and my manager does not even know if there are static routes inside our ASA or even the switches we have. When I try to gain access with HyperTerminal or PuTTy, I get denied and no one knows the passwords for these devices.

We are getting a new (faster/reliable) Internet connection, and I need to know what would be the best way to restructure everything? Should I reset defaults on these devices before going at it? Salvage what they have now and try a conversion inside our main router? I've tested a few things to no avail, everything crashed (both times) but got everything back up in minutes.

Fresh start or not? That is the question...
