I can't quite figure out why something is happening in my environment and wanted to see what input you guys had...
I have a Server 2012 domain with a SonicWALL and a few VPN licenses. I have DHCP configured on the DC. I also have a small DHCP scope enabled on the SW for the VPN connections. The two scopes are configured to hand out IPs on the same subnet.
I recently created a new VM (Hyper-V), joined it to the domain and connected it to the network via the vSwitch configured on the host. However, the SW DHCP scope seems to be taking precedence and the VM is getting assigned it's IP config from the SW instead of the DC.
The DHCP scope on the SW only has 10
IP addresses in it. As far as workstations on the LAN, it seems like
workstations will grab IP info from the SW until the pool is exhausted
and the rest will start getting configs from the DC. The really weird
part is this - my new VM, for example, is getting is config from the SW
and is also getting assigned the DNS servers (external) configured on
that scope. However, the workstations that are taking IPs from the SW
DHCP pool are showing my DC as their DNS servers. How in the world is
that happening?
Any thoughts on how my configuration is incorrect? It's obviously not right for some reason. Help?
