Linux/Windows Home Network

I am new with Linux.  I tried Ubuntu and now Mint with basically the same problem.  I have a small home network consisting of two wired Windows XP computers and Linux Mint on my Laptop using an external USB drive to boot from.  On the Linux laptop I can see both of the Windows computers and access their files, drives and printers.  However, when the Linux laptop is on the network, I cannot get on the network with either of the Windows computers.  Wnen the Linux computer is not in the system, the Windows computers can share files, drives and printers.  When looking at the network with a Windows computer when all computers are on the network using Windows Explorer the browsing stops at the network name and if click again I receive a message that the workgroup name is not accessable that I might not have permission to use the network resources.

What must I do to fix this situation?
