So this is what I'm dealing with..

SO.. I have taken on a Systems Admin role for a company (just little old me - no others in IT) and was told before starting to be aware that the cabling is setup in an 'odd' way.

By odd, what they meant to say was that they are a complete shambles. Because of this, the comms cabinets became quite unsightly (think Indiana Jones snake pit) and so it was decided that the best bet was to go forth with an 'out of sight, out of mind' concept. Apparently the best way to achieve that is to throw them up above the ceiling tiles. All apart from one because it was 'too messy' so I have the pleasure of dealing with it at ground level. Hmmmmm..

As you can probably guess, NOTHING is documented, and there seems to have been about 4 naming conventions for patching sockets, so in just one cabinet, there are ports 2-1-a b or c, K-1-24, 1A, 1B, 1C. That would be fine.. apart from the wall ports apparently do not actually always correspond to the same port in the cab.

Has anyone else ever walked into a situation like this? How the holy hell did you sort it out?! I feel like I am stood at the foot of a mountain and have been ordered to the top while my Sherpa has gone on Holiday.
