Hello. I have a WDS server deployed in a vlan that I will label as 10. This server only serves up the images and responds to PXE broadcasts. I also have a DHCP server that is in another vlan that I will label 20 and this is also the same vlan that my client machines exist on. On my 3750G multilayer switch I have an ip helper pointed to the WDS server in vlan 10. According to microsoft when the WDS server and DHCP server are in different subnets they recommend using ip helpers to allow PXE boot instead of using DHCP options 66 and 67. The issue that I am having is that my clients are not always receiving a DHCP address using ip helpers. Since I am receiving an ip address via DHCP occasionally it appears that DORA is getting broadcast out to vlan 20 and the ip helper is also forwarding the request so that the PXE boot works as well. This does not work all the time though. Could the ip helper be interfering with the normal DORA request to vlan 20? With an ip helper does the DORA request still get sent out the broadcast domain? Thanks.
