Hi, I've been trying to find an answer to this problem for a while, and feel like I'm going in circles. Hopefully someone here can set me straight.
We have isc-dhcpd version 4.2.2 and BIND version 9.8.4 running on a Debian 7 server. Dynamic DNS is setup and working. However, when a DHCP lease expires, the corresponding DNS records are not removed. Our dhcp leases are set to expire in 48hrs.
For instance, if a laptop is on our network for a day, and then leaves, after the 48hrs, it's DNS entry is still there. It remains until I manually delete it using nsupdate from the command line.
I've read a lot of conflicting info on this. Apparently, a windows DHCP server has an option that can be set to delete A and PTR records when a lease expires, but I can't seem to find an option like that for Linux. What am I missing?
