Network down regularly for about 10 minutes - seems Layer1 or 2 issue

Hello Everyone,

We are experiencing network outage atleast twice a every day which last for 10 minutes then it come back by it self.

I have contcted service provider who said earlier that there was a loop in the network to which i disagree becasue if there is a loop then network will slowdown gradually due to broadcast and will not come back up by it self untill Loop is removed. Please correct me if i am wrong. However i recable the whole office to rule out the option of loop.

We are still experiencing the same issue so i contacted service provider again and now they are saying it can be Layer 1 issue or Layer 2 issue for e.g chatty NIC, cable, Switch port, port on wall or phone port (we use Avaya phone) etc...

How can i spot any of the fault at layer 1 or layer 2?

We have following setup:

  • Service proviers cable goes to 16 port switch. (Latley we have experience growth so i have plugged 2 swtich)
  • 1 port of 16 port is connected to 8 port switch
  • 1 port of 8 port switch is connected to another 8 port switch.
  • All the available ports of switches are connected to patch panel. Patch panels are connected to Wall jack which are connected to Avaya phone and from Phone to PC.
  • Our Topology is very simple.

Your support and suggestions are valuable. I really appreciate your time.
