I'm sure this must have been asked before but i cannot find the answer so...
we have two server2k3 R2 domain controllers in different cities, joined by a WAN. Both DCs are in the same domain, but have different IPs (ie here is 192.168.4.1, there is 192.168.9.1). Each DC provides DHCP to its local PCs. Each DC has a number of shared drives. Until recently the users PCs have all been XP and there has been no problem with opening shares at either DC. We are replacing the desktops with W7pro (both 32 and 64 bit) and find the W7 boxes cannot open the shares. They CAN ping both servers ok, but can only open shares on the local DC, attempting to even browse the remote DC returns 0x8007035 the network path was not found.
From a command prompt, net use \\servername\sharename returns "system error 64 - the specified network name is no longer available"
net use \\ip_address\sharename returns 'system error 53 - the network path was not found"
I have installed VirtualXP on the Windows7 boxes to run an old accounting application, and the remote server and shares ARE accessible from within virtual XP, but not on the Win7 host.
Turning off the Windows firewall at the PC has no effect.
Suggestions greatly appreciated.
