Wireless - One time password setup

Hi,

Looking at implementing OTP for our guest network.

Plan is to have radius authentication so staff can access it using their AD credentials and then visitors be provide a OTP from reception.

I'm using a Cisco WLC. The radius is easy enough to setup but I am a little stuck with the OTP's. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use for the OTP authentication?

Thanks.

I know this is probably a silly question but aparently my brain has already checked out for the weekend....

I am trying to block MAC addresses with a Zyxel USG 50 and can't seem to find where that feature is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Newbie VLAN question

We no longer have our VLAN specialist on staff here and I'd like to better understand VLANs. I'm testing with a couple of Netgear Smart Switches (GS724T). I understand how to setup the VLAN and set Untagged Ports and Tagged Ports as well as set the PVID so that they default to the correct VLAN, my question is how do you route this? Do I need to have my gateway router configured with the multiple VLANS so that I can route outside the network or do I setup a routing port on the switch? Doing the routing port on the switch, doesn't that defeat the purpose of the VLAN since the two networks will eventually merge?

We recently had a VoIP system installed here. The company replaced our switch with a cisco managed switch and put the phones on their own VLAN. The computer connected to the default VLAN through the phone. I assume to accomplish...

Redundant Network - need advice

Hello All,

Would you have a look on attached screenshot and advice if my thinking is correct.

Basically 2 internet lines, primary and backup (two different providers) idea is when one goes down Active Sonicwall will use the backup line. If Active sonicwall fail the passive will take over.

Also Spanning Tree in case links go down which again do you think setting up priorities as on diagram is correct ?

Routing done on firewall, switches provide only vlans.

Diagram is simplified from visio, ASCII works ;]

USB Wireless LAN Adapter for Windows XP Pro

I've got some PCs housed in metal cabinets that are used in a manufacturing facility. I want to replace the current 802.11g cards with USB wireless 802.11n LAN adapters. Because the PC is in a metal cabinet, I want to use 3 ft USB cables to get the adapters outside.

We just finished upgrading our wireless network to Ubiquiti Unifi UAP-AC APs.

I tried an EDIMAX AC600 adapter, which works well on Windows 7 but I've had nothing but problems with them on XP. I also tried the Rosewill RNX-N180UBE. That works great but I found after receiving it that it's only operational after it launches an exe from the Startup folder. This make remote maintenance hard because rebooting or logging off loses your connection.

I'd appreciate any recommendations on a 802.11n USB adapter that's compatible with XP and will work at the end of a 3 ft USB cable.

better ping to PC than to the switch it is connected to

Hi everyone, first of all thanks for reading this.

As the title says... i'm having that: better ping to a host than to the switch it is connected to.

The ping is issued from my pc, then goes ==== central office switch==== switch of this thread==== PC

The connection between the central office switch and the switch of this thread is a fiber optics cable with media converters.

192.168.2.121 is the Switch, and 2.40 the PC.

i'm guessing it doens't necesarily mean that there is a problem... but just yesterday i had and intermittent ping. response that looked like this:

As you can see, one gets to the destination and the other is dropped.

The central office Switch is a Cisco SF300 and the Switch with the issues is a Planet SGSD-1022P .

i thank you all for your insight.

Static IPs for Building Tenants

Hello again, I haven't been very active lately due to a new project that is keeping me busy. And I could use some advice for it! We are moving to a different location, and there will be multiple tenant companies in the building sharing a single ISP modem. We are going to require each tenant to have an assigned static WAN IP (DHCP is fine internally.) I've got an EdgeRouter Lite, and two Netgear GS724Tv4 smart switches. I already have a block of /29 addresses from our ISP. I'm not quite sure how to achieve this. My thoughts so far is to create a VLAN for each tenant and another for our guest wireless to segregate the networks, but I'm not sure about assigning the WAN IPs. Anyone have some suggestions?

ISP Managed Switches

We are switching ISP's and finally bringing fiber into the building. Part of their proposal was to manage the switches. We have three branches that need to be tied together. Currently I manage all the switches and they just bring the data feed in. I am contemplating accepting this offer, which would give me one less thing to worry about. I've never had an ISP manage our switches though and since I'm a control freak it makes me a little nervous.

How about any of you out there, do you manage your own switches or let the ISP manage them. What would the pros and cons be.

VLAN Routing Help

Go easy on me because I'm not an VLAN or Routing expert, but I could use some help.

We have 2 HP 2920 switches with several VLANs on them. Im currently only concentrating on one.

I'm able to ping the both switched on the VLAN network from the LAN, but I'm not able to ping any node on the VLAN from the LAN.

I've enabled ip routing, and set a static route on each switch pointing back to our SonicWall firewall.

The routes in the SonicWall look correct as far as I can tell, but I still can seem to make a ping make it all the way to a node on the VLAN.

Any help would be great!

Here's the routing table on the SonicWall:

I'm getting ready to purchase a new Dell PowerEdge R730xd to virtualize about 8-10 servers. Our current network consists of about 130 users.  We have Cisco SG300 10/100 switches... we're not a Gigabit shop...

Am I safe to move forward?  We have an Intranet Server, Email, and an ERP that take up most of the network.  RDP across our MPLS...

VPN + RDP - RDP fails to connect?

I am using softether VPN at the moment, and it has been working fairly well. I have had 3 users that occasionally use VPN + RDP todosomeremoteoffice work.

2/3 users have not had any problems connecting, mostly at home.

1/3 users has not been able to connect (mostly at hotels). [I have tested the computer/connection at a Tim Horton's locally, and it worked fine.]

Last time he was out of town, he was able to connect to the VPN. I could ping his IP, and see his session in the VPN manager.. However, RDP failed to connect to his local desktop.

Any ideas for a trouble shooting checklist I can run through at this point?

  1. Are you connected to the VPN?
  2. Is the local PC being RDP'ed into turned on?
  3. Does the local PC have an IP address?
  4. Can you RDP into the IP address, rather than the Host Name?

Could it be that RDP is being block at the remote location?...

Software to Monitor and log network connectivity

Hi I need a software tool which can log whenever the network connection to a computer drops.

I have a program which accesses a shared database but keeps having issues, freezing, closing and errors. The developers have checked and can't find anything wrong. We have changed the host machine but same result. Since it is intermittent I am thinking it is related to the network but since this is at a client's site and when we get there the network is up I need something which does logging.

ISCSI Initiator Not Retaining Credentials

Every time I reboot my server, the ISCSI connection does not get renewed due to authentication failure. I have tried going under the configuration tab and manually setting the initiator name (this does get retained) as well as the CHAP secret (does not get retained). Has anyone run into this issue? Why wont my CHAP secret work on my connections  when it is inputted through the configuration settings?

Network design question

We are planning to move few of our environments from the office server room to a datacenter, need to expand, but there is no more available physical space, cooling capacity issues, etc.

Number of office networks are currently all interconnected via SonicWall firewall acting as an internal router .

The plan is to use a metro layer 2 link from the office to the DC creating extension of the local 192.x network

The problem is that the Internet connection and few internal networks will stay in the office while other networks, including our development (10.x) network will have to be migrated to the DC.

Here comes the question: the only router that routes traffic is going to stay in the office, means there is no way for the office users to reach the 10.x subnet.

We can install additional router in DC and create static route on office router to...

New Procurve 2920-48G w/ 10GBe connections - I'm baffled

First off this is not my area of expertise. Just getting that out there. I'm a hack when it comes to this stuff. I eventually get things done, but it's often painful and I'd be much better off doing CAD work.

Anyway...

I have bought a 2920, 2x 10GBe adaptors, 4x cables and am trying to connect a new file server and a CAD workstation via a very high speed link.

It's a CAD station, I hate having files local on the machine (peer to peer) but since installing the PCI SSD, it's way faster that way than pulling them off the domain file server. So I copy them to the CAD station and sync them back to the file server. Not a good way to do things.

Enter the new file server = very fast HP DL380 w/ 15k rpm drives. The main data Mirror will likely get upgraded to SSDs once I get this network issue resolved, or maybe caching like is in PrimoCache...

FileHippo and Secunia PSI cannot connect to servers...

Client PC is an HP Vista machine. She had some popups and a fake antivirus so I cleaned system with Malewarebytes and Eset Smart Security and removing entries from msconfig that were not needed or just bad.

Machine runs much better.  But, I use FileHippo to check for out of date software and it cannot connect to the FileHippo servers.  I can connect fine on my machine, so I know it isn't FileHippo.

I turned OFF firewall both in Eset and Windows and still got the same error.

I downloaded Secunia PSI to use it instead and it gives me the same error about not being able to connect to its servers.

Eset and Malwarebytes update with no issues as does Vista.

I can surf just fine and have checked IE's internet connectivity config for possible problems with no luck.

Any ideas?
