Network connection drops if not set to 10Mb full duplex

We have a POS kiosk at the end of 25m run of Cat5, for about a month its been having an issue where it drops of the network until the network cable is pulled or the connection is "reset"

When the issue occurs the connection on the switch and POS says "up". Interestingly the POS doesn't show in the mac address table on the switch.

This only happens if it is set to Auto Negotiate or 100mb (Full or Half Duplex). If I set the POS and switch to 10mb FD then it stays up and functions for extended periods (3 weeks & counting) so far. As it's only small amounts of data that get transferred this has sufficed, however I would like to nail the issue.

We've tested the cable, swapped the switch and replaced the till hardware (not the OS)

What do you think is going on here?

Can't connect to local server by domain

Hi all
Today i want to ask about connect to local server by domain.
I have in my network AD server(Windows Server 2012 R2) and CentOS server(with websites).

I assign my domain lan01.example.com to router IP and port 80 to CentOS server.

From LAN network i can view website by IP address, from remote hosts(outside network) i can use domain. When i try to open sites from LAN network by domain i have error https://imgur.com/NV8AoWt

And i find two options:
1. My router don't have option to "view lan things from outside" (i don't remember name of this function)

2. My Windows Server DNS block this connections..

Does anyone knows how to change this ? :)

Setting Squid up as a Transparent Proxy

I have a squid box two with nics:

Nic 1 (eth0 - WAN - 10.1.1.x)

Nic 2 (eth1 - LAN - 10.1.2.x)

Goal: Route all traffic through NIC2 - forward to port 3128 (squid) - Check if allowed - forward traffic out eth0 to the internet.

I'm not sure if the squid config is the issue or my iptables.

Meraki MX64 VPN Client Unable To Access MS Server 2008 Resources

I am unable to access resources on a few 2008 R2 servers via a connected VPN client on Windows 7. The client is able to access all clients(Windows 7) and Windows Server 2012 on the network but not any of the 2008 R2 servers. The clients can resolve the IPs of the servers but can't ping them. Meraki tech support confirmed that the VPN connection was sending packets to the servers but we could not determine why they were not responding.

We have a client that have tow boats along coastline. They are currently using Cradlepoint, but we would like to know if there are other alternatives due to Cradlepoint keeps changing their models every 6 months or so and keeps raising the prices.

I am wondering if anyone had setup 4G connections with wireless router that is not Cradlepoint.

Stream multiple microphones to website

I have four USB microphones connected to a Windows server 2008 r2 machine. I am trying to stream their feeds to a website in real time. I have found a way to do this via BUTT and icecast, but the feed cuts out every so often and I don't think I can stream more than one mic. Can anyone recommend a simplistic, reliable solution for this?

Running out of IP addresses

Can anyone advise the best and simplest way to extend IP address on the domain ?

I have currently a class C 24 bit mask with 254 address leases which are almost all used up now. DHCP server is 2008 r2 server.

If I super-scope do I need to configure my router, i.e. add a logical Gateway to support other network?

Is there an easier way ?

All advice appreciated.

Bitlocker is not encrypting the 2nd drive

I am implementing Bitlocker using MBAM server in our AD domain. We have only specific systems that need to be targeted, I have it setup and running correctly via GPO and the systems have a TPM chip, but I have a couple of laptops with 2nd drives that are NOT being encrypted.

Any ideas why this is and how I can get them to be automatically encrypted as well? They are all Windows 8.1 or 10.

I know that certain disk types are not able to be encrypted, but as an example on one system, they are both Basic disks:

Network/Domain Computer Issue

Okay, I fear asking for it being something simple that I've missed, but I have a computer that I setup on my workbench, did all updates and connected to domain (with no issues). I then took it to it's location (which previously didn't have a computer) and powered it on and it wouldn't identify the network or get internet. The odd part was that it pulled DHCP (or at least for some reason decided to use it's old lease rather than choosing a 169.x.x.x address), but no other connectivity that I could find. I tried disabling Windows Firewall and turning off our Trend Micro client to no avail. I should say that this is a computer that I've had a few power related issues with that I just refreshed to try and get by until our next hardware refresh this summer, so I couldn't rule out hardware.

I have since tried both a non-domain linux netbook...

Media converter recomendations

We have run 5,500 ft. of 12 strand single mode fiber, the fiber is 1310 nm 9/125 um and will be used to connect the main building complex to the entry gate and provide network connectivity to a maintenance building and programmability to the gate system and access to several security cameras.

We need a hardenedmedia converter that can withstand temperatures from 20 -140 F as it will be in a locked electrical box outside keeping components and other electrical connections dry. Actual temperatures would actually only be in the 25-95 range.

I got a quote from a contractor for a Garrett for $1,500 and was shocked at his price knowing there are other media converters for $100-$200 that may do the job.

I'm not quite sure what would be a good choice for a media converter for this application, can someone recommend one and an SPF for the...

Connection loss, generally after some idle time

Hello Spicey comrades!

I support a windows server 2011 essentials environment with roaming profiles and just upgraded to ESET antivirus v6.2 and v6.3 on one specific computer. This specific computer is now experiencing issues with connections to the server, see the customer note below. Where do I check first? This one is really odd. The other symptom on the LAN is that the desktop must be refreshed after some time to make the icons "reappear" whereas they were there in the morning at logon.

Customer note: "Whenever I am not using the remote login or have stepped away the red x on the server folders appear at the office and I can not use remote access on my PC - roger is away from the office and I cannot get on- not the end of the world but I do plan to start working from home more will need resolve.

J/k about Clint Eastwood...I made a pitiful attempt at impersonating Dirty Harry for the purpose of makingJustin O (Spiceworks)'s "Get off my WLAN!" theme come to fruition.

Aside from my typical chat desk antics, our panelists dug deep to answer your questions about securing your wireless network, setting up guest WiFi, dealing with rouge AP's, and much more. Best practice configuration for public IIS server with internal database backend

$

I have an application server running on IIS and communicates with the database via API calls. I want to put the IIS server in a DMZ, but allow it to communicate with the database server, which cannot be made public. Right now, everything is on the same subnet, which is less than ideal.

Moving forward, I want to segregate everything into VLANs and put the public-facing servers in the DMZ, but still allow the IIS server to communicate with the database server.

What would be considered best practice for this type of implementation?
