HPE 2920-24G switches to Watchguard multi wan - Dedicate Voice vlan to secondary External

Setup:

3 HP 2920-24G switches

2 Vlans - Voice and Data

Windows DHCP Server - hands out addresses to 192.168.10.x (Data) and 192.168.155.X (Voice)

I have the IP phones working as expected and hopping on the voice vlan, getting a new IP from the voice scope. The issue, is our main connection has a high latency route to the PBX location. Our copper connection (Secondary external) has a low latency route and I want to specifically force the voice vlan to use the secondary external to help with the delay problems being reported by users.

I've tried using policy based routing (override checkbox) and created both vlans within the watchguard. When I do this, the phones drop their IPs and no longer get an IP address at all. I've tried setting Send and...

Migrating DNS and DHCP to new server

We have an old 2003 physical server we are decommissioning. A new 2012 R2 VM was created and will have same hostname and IP as the old 2003 server. Part of the roles on the 2003 was DNS and DHCP. I can migrate the other roles over without issue but my concern is the DNS and DHCP. Regarding DNS, I tried looking for a *.dns config file in systemroot\system32 but only found one record in the dns folder and the modified date was in 2003. I saw another guide to migrate which involed expoting the DNS list into a csv and converting it into a batch file to run the dnscmd command, but the csv put everything into one column unlike the guide which showed information on separate columns so i wasn't able to separate the fields like the guide said to. Can I manually just add the specific A records and name server records and let DNS discover the...

Engenuis: ezMaster Setup

So I am trying to use enenuis ezmaster. When I go through the instructions it is asking for the ezMaster server address, subnet, dns, etc. So is the ezMaster software suppose to go onto a actual server that requires certain software to access the web ui?  Because if I just install it on my machine and go to my static ip address it does nothing.

How to add IPv6 to router?

Comcast gave us a /48 of IPv6 addresses.

I've entered their DNS servers, but not sure how would I go about entering the IP info. Do I use the entire /48 for our router? What is my IPv6 gateway?

I was given two things - a WAN block for layer 3 router, and a LAN block for usable devices.

2001:339:614d:2601::d40/126 - WAN Block - this would get programmed in our L3 Router (WAN Router)

2001:339:1d3::/48 is what I was given as the usable LAN block - for our office router/firewall.

Do I simply use 2001:339:1d3::1 as the IPv6 Gateway IP and use ::2 as my Public WAN IP?

Wifi Repeater / extender

We just built a new garage and need to extend our wireless network to include the garage.  The distance is only about 100' so we have excellent signal.  If we just had a PC I would just add a wireless adapter and be done with it but we will have several wired / wireless devices out there so I guess I need a repeater / extender?  Do I have to buy a repeater or can an access point be configured as a repeater?  My wireless router is a TP-Link if that matters.

Ubiquiti EdgeRouter: QoS by IP range or IP address

I posted this on Ubiquiti's own support forum and it was marked as SPAM! I should have probably came here in the first place..

I'm sorry for what I think is somewhat simple. It's been a long time since I've worked on enterprise level routers and I'm a little rusty. I can't figure it on in the GUI and I'm not sure of the commands in the CLI.

I have an EdgeRouter PoE 5 port.

Our internet connection is 50mb down/ 1.5 mb up. On a busy day we might have 30 connected at once but usually it would be like 5-10 users.

Here are my networks/vlans

192.168.0.0/24 - main corporate network

192.168.0.2/32 radio station- for now it's on a seperate router but soon will be another lan on this router. It would be 192.168.1.0/24 when that change happens.

192.168.40.0/24 (VLAN 40) school

192.168.30.0/24 (VLAN 30) guest network

Routing Issue

Hello Fellow Spiceheads!

We recently upgraded our network. We are now having some routing issues with our VPN. When on the VPN, I am unable to get to anything inside the network but I can ping myself from inside the network. I know it is probably just a routing issue. But I am not sure where to look since I am not a networking expert. We are using an ASA Vpn with a Meraki Firewall and a Cisco Switch. Any ideas on what could solve our issue?

Tackling Network "house keeping"

$

Hi All,

So I've been with my new company for around 6 months now, and one task for this quarter is to do a bit of house working on the network. This isn't including servers or software at this moment in time (That comes later!) but I'm purely looking at things like:

  • Switch Interface descriptions
  • Port channel numbering
  • VLAN IDs & names
  • Firewall ACLs
  • Netflow rules
  • Bandwidth Manager rules

That's about it at the moment. I'm trying to think of the best way to dive into this. Does anyone have any recommendations, short of looking at each individual rule and deciding what is correct and what isn't?

Thanks a bunch,

Bill

My domain controllers are unable to ping each other?

When I try to ping one DC from another, it says Destination Host Unreachable. However, I can ping both DCs from other devices and VMs. DC02 alsocan browse the internetbut says limited network access.

Not only that, but DFS Replication service keeps failing. When I run dcdiag on DC02 the things it says that stand out are:

Failing SYSVOL replication problems may cause Group Policy problems
failed test DFSREvent
passed test SysVolCheck

Starting test: MachineAccount
Warning: Attribute userAccountControl of DC02 is:
0x82020 = (PASSWD_NOTREQD : SERVER_TRUST_ACCOUNT : TRUSTED_FOR_DELEGATION)
Typical setting for a DC is
0x82000 = ( SERVER_TRUST_ACCOUNT : TRUSTED_FOR_DELEGATION )
This may be affecting replication?

Starting test: NetLogons
[DC02] User credentials does done have permission to perform this operation.
The account used for this test must have...

PoE Switch for WiFi warehouse

We currently have a Cisco Catalyst 2960-X (WS-C2960X-48TS-L) that has 4 open SFP fiber capable ports in our current network. We plan to run fiber to our new warehouse for workstations and a full coverage WiFi wireless system. There will be around 30,000 square feet of coverage needed in a metal warehouse with some racking. Currently, I am leaning toward the Ubiquiti Unifi AP AC Pro system based on recommendations, but this is not purchased yet.

So, to start this process we will need to purchase a Power Over Ethernet switch to run the workstations and eventually the WiFi solution. We will need a 24 port switch there. I'm familiar with and leaning toward getting a Catalyst there, but would consider alternatives. I am seeing that the they come in different wattages for the PoE. Does this simply affect the number of Access Points that can...

Setting up new WIFI system for picky client

$

The owner of my company is having a new house build and he asked me to plan out the wifi system. I have never set up a new wifi system, and am learning the best I can online now.

He wants absolutely perfect signal in every corner and extremely simple management. He also has some outdoor areas that he wan'ts covered (including a small soccer field). But is insistent on not having any access points showing through the home. It is a large, three story home, with solid wood construction and heavy insulation in all the walls. So my challenge is to put together a good system, probably a mesh system, that gives strong signal everywhere, but is not visible. He wants routers to be in the closets or cabinets. He also wants an automated notification if an of the routers go down.

Money is no option, he wants the best.

For simplicity, I was thinking...

Limiting which devices on a network can communicate with one another

$

I have a number of client computers running Windows 10 that connect to a firewalled VDI.

The client computers are unable to directly connect to the internet. The only functionality I want them to provide is an RDP client for connecting to the VDI which provides all of the necessary services for the users.

I would like to know if it is possible to setup a smart switch in such a way that those terminals are only able to communicate with the VDI and not each other? So if someone happened to pick up an infected USB drive the only device that it would be able to attack is the firewall to the VDI.

Is this doable and if so, what kind of hardware would I need?

Thanks for the assistance!

Mapped Drives Drop Intermittently - The local device name is already in use

Hello all,

Please forgive my naivety. I am what you would call an "Accidental Admin" who has to field all sorts of IT related stuff in a small business.

After our company recently moved to a new location some of our staff are having issues with network drives. We have a 2011 small business server, another SQL server on Windows 2008 r2 and everyone's laptops that are all Windows 10 pro.

Intermittently some of the laptops and the SQL server lose connection to the mapped drives with the following error:

An error occurred while reconnecting to <\\server name\shared folder>
Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use.
The connection has not been restored.

This will happen right after logging in sometimes, but sometimes not; sometimes after the drives have been left idle, but sometimes not; and it appears to be affecting scheduled tasks that run on the...

Dentrix with Wifi (wireless network)

Hi,

I am upgrading to Dentrix in my office and in the process of buying the servers and workstations/laptops.

My question is can I work with dentrix on a Wifi network. My comcast network speed for Wifi would be 150Mbps (for exernal web etc). The server will be wired to router but the workstations/laptops in the Operatories will be on wifi I can buy a 1G wifi router to make sure the wireless connection between Operatories and server is very fast. For signal degradation in case of lead based walls, I can add wireless Access points just outside every Operatory (Ubiquiti).

Any feedback would be great !

D-Link Router Causing Exchange Connection Issues

$

I had posted this similar topic a while back, thinking that it had something to do with a mis-step in my network configuration, but now I think it's hardware related.

Ihad purchased a D-Link DSR-250n business router for our office about 18 months ago as a backup to our aging Cisco. When the D-Link was put in place, all users started experiencing slowdowns and hangs in Outlook 2010 and 2013. This was about 4-5 times a day, a user would click "send" but Outlook would then hang in the sending process. If you left it for about 20 minutes it would eventually go. If you closed and restarted Outlook, it would immediately send and then receive any number of backlogged incoming emails.

I never really figured out the cause of it, chalked it up to "too many users at our head office for this router to work properly" (we only have about 35 users) and...

So we have an ip range of 10.2.0.*

I want it so that VLAN 2 can be 192.168.0.* for a public wifi, is this possible and how would you configure?

I literally have no idea.. in all my years in IT i've never had to set one up or learn how to till now..

The default VLAN is this, so what should I test VLAN 2 with?

I've been having an issue recently where after I have disconnected my VPN I am then unable to VPN back in to anywhere else.

I get error code 720: A Connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection.

When doing an ipconfig /all It comes back with

PPP Adapter
Media State: Media Unoperational

Only way i have been able to resolve this is by rebooting my PC, but this is becoming a pain as I VPN in to lots of comapnys I dont want to be rebooting every 5 mins.

Done the basics of updating the drivers, sfc, reseting network adapters etc.

I am running windows 10 pro

Anyone come across this?
