I am attempting to help out a non-profit by volunteering to help solve their IT issues.
Currently, they are running a P4 Server with SBS '03 which has been designated the DNS, Print, and File Server and has the DHCP duties have been once again delegated back to the router. Which is unfortunately a Linksys WRT54G running stock firmware and on average handling a load of about 14-15 users and about 20 network devices at any given time. The LAN is a mix of both wired and wireless. The wired users are currently running into a Netgear switch and then into the Linksys. The wireless users(about 10) are connecting to the WRT54. The WAN connection, due to remote location is a Tsunami wireless bridge to the local high school (about 10 miles away) where it is connected to a Motorola Surfboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem.
Everything, albeit the slow network has seemed to work up until recently when a Security Contractor was hired in order to install a few IP cameras. There has seemingly been a steady flow of non-stop issues anything from the cameras using 100% of the available pipeline or setup issues (due to ip conflicts whether DHCP or Static (cameras were assigned to the same address as a laser printer) or something of a similar nature).
Basically I am l trying to find the best recommendations I can make that would help increase reliability and decrease network congestion. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
