Ok so I have just purchased a new HP 2920 48/POE switch for our second floor demark point. This will become the main Switch for the 2nd floor, it will have roughly 20 workstations and 15 phones connected to the device.
More info...
My old Dlink switch is getting flakey and keeps dropping VOIP calls - Hense the replacement switch! This old switch was not setup by me, no documentation, and they guy who installed it is not around any longer. This switch does NOT handle DHCP or anything of the sort - pretty much a dumb switch.
So.. The problem!
This old Dlink switch would pass on DHCP requests for client workstations and our VIOP phones down to our main Cisco catalist switches which handles DHCP. Normally our workstations will pickup an IP of 10.0.100.x and phones normally get an IP of 10.0.200.x.
So the switch is installed... I figured the new HP switch would do the same as the old switch and pass on the DHCP requests from the VOIP phones to the cisco catalists. Right now when I connect a VOIP phone it always obtains an IP from the wrong VLAN. All phones obtain an IP of 10.0.100.x and same with workstations.
Can someone help me understand what I'm missing??
Anything and everything is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
