Networking with Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 Help

I'm having an odd issue with networking several computers for a small network less than 10 computers with various different operating systems. In all cases I'm able to connect to any of the XP machines, no issues, but connecting to the Vista and 7 machines connect to the drives but then say I do not have permission when I try to open a fully shared drive. Yet I have removed all password settings, made sure I have all the permissions set to full control. The windows 8 machines work without fail with or without a password setup.

Here is what gets me, I have setup and changed all the systems to one workgroup name and renamed all users and set the same password for all users, I followed everything I could find online like http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/networking-home-computers-running-different-windows#networking-home-computers-running-different-windows=windows-7

So now I'm stuck, Vista and 7 seem to be an issue with permissions, I'm wondering what I'm missing and how to verify I'm setup to allow networking to Vista and 7, normally this is easy, but something is off and I can't seem to find it just yet. Do I need to setup a home-group then join that group for 7 machines, but this is then is an issue with Vista correct and thus would not work. I have tried with or without a home group and I still have permissions issues, it's the oddest thing.

Please any help or direction would be greatly appreciated, this one has me stumped, felling stupid. Thanks
