Hey everyone! I'm hoping you all can give some advice here. We are in our new building and as it turns out, will be implementing a range of devices on the network (which we have never done before.) I was hoping to get some suggestions on the infrastructure we should use.
Right now we have a standard, cheap 24 port Netgear switch but I don't think that will cut it anymore. There are 15 desktops at the moment and we'll be adding a couple more out in the warehouse area. The issue now is we will be adding IP phones to everyone's office - so 15 or so of them. I know that isn't a lot but it seems enough to me to justify splitting up the network traffic. I don't know if we need to do VLANs or not. The owner thinks we could setup a separate switch to handle them since the phones will be going through Time Warner fiber rather than our internet. But, they do need to communicate with the Altigen server to go through the PRI which is the fiber line.
Any thoughts here? What switches would you suggest? Keep in mind our current switch was $200...
