I've a client looking to replace a wireless point-to-point link with a buried fibre run. My gut tells me this is a ridiculous waste of cash, as the wireless link is nowhere near saturated. However, it's ultimately their decision how they want to burn their cash. It's on me to give them the best cost/benefit and hardware recommendations.
The last time I did anything with fibre links was back in the late 90s, when the switches didn't have integrated fibre uplink modules. I'd appreciate suggestions for:
- Hardware at both ends of the run
- Resources for information on current fibre implementation standards.
