I have a number of network and broadband issues that may be many symptoms of one problem or many problems.
My BB provider (BT) is telling me I am downloading in excess of 100 GB and uploading in excess of 150 GB per month. This is the event that triggered my checks.
This is the first time I have used the Spiceworks network scanner and I would like some help please.
First: I cannot work out how to get the scanner to report what is actually there and active rather than everything it has found in the past.
Second: It is reporting a device on the internal network that should not exist. There is no information reported just the IP address. According to the network diagram this appears to be creating a circular path which is not conducive to network performance.
Whilst I need to trace the reason why bandwidth is being consumed I would like to find out what the phantom device is and if necessary get rid of it. This I cannot do until I can find out how to get the scanner to show only the devices currently active on the network.
I have disconnected everything I can leaving just the firewall (SonicWALL TZ 210) and the laptop I am using to monitor this minimal network. The phantom device is still shown as a default path between the network address cloud and the LAN port on the TZ 210 and so is presumably active.
Any help would be appreciated.
