Hello there!
We are moving to the new office and I need to come up with a networking solution.
So these are the requirements:
- 2 offices connected by ~20m (~60 feet) fiber optics
- fiber optics uplink (50 Mbit/s)
- some 30 devices per office
I would probably need to check which fiber optics cable is in play here, right? Would most probable be SX?
We have 3xTL-SG3424 (TP-Link, 24 Port, managed, 4xSFP) switches. So I could either get new hardware or see if I can use the current one. Since I've never messed with fiber optics, I have no idea what I need. Fo connect thw 2 offices together: can I just buy any 2 SFP SX modules and plug them into the switch? Or they need to be from the same manufacturer? Since I'm not sure weather I'd need a SX or something else, can I detect the cable type by visually inspecting it? I forgot to check if there's something written on it.
As for serving the ~30 devices per office, is it wiser to go for a (new) 48 port switch, or it's better to have 2x24 port switch connected with fiber? I usually prefer to have more pieces of equipment in case one failes, but am not sure if that's the way to go at this level.
TIA
