My question is similar to some others I have seen here and on line, but I have not found one that actually covers an answer for this. It puzzles me as to why it works but it doesn't at the same time.
The scenario usually occurs after a weekend. I leave my machine running so I can remote in over the weekend and monitor activity, etc. I do not always remote in, but I still leave the machine on. My desktop unit is an Alienware i7, 12 Gb RAM, Windows 7 64Bit machine.
When I return on Monday, I will have network connection, I can see other computers on the network, My Intermapper program is still monitoring network items, I can still access network folders, But I cannot get onto the Internet. Mail, Weather, Spiceworks, and other programs that run on Web Browsers have stopped sometime while I was gone. Here is the puzzling thing, I can ping outside addresses and named servers through the CMD line, just no browser or Internet. I have tried several different browsers as well.
Of course a reboot fixes the whole problem.
I have disabled IPV 6, I have set static IP addresses for my machine. I have a reserve for this machine on the Domain Controller/DNS Server, When setting static values I have set to these values, with and without keeping the reserve on the Server. Still everything I have been able to find about flushing DNS, disabling/enabling the NIC never work . But a re-boot always works.
While I am still investigating this oddity, the main goal, besides finding what it is and trying to stop it, is to be able to correct it w/o having to re-boot. I guess it may be something I will just have to end up living with.
Just thought I'd see if anyone else had or was having these issues.
