Hey all -

We’ve just put our new beta app on Google Play, and are ready for you to come and test it out!

As always, it's only through your feedback and help that we can continue to pump out new features and platform support - so thanks so much in advance, and we hope you like it!

Chris

--------------------- Quick version---------------------

If you've got a device running Android 4.1.2 or newer, head over to: Google Play, and install the app.

Just like on other platforms, the Pertino app provides secure connections between your devices – no matter where they are.  And just like on other platforms, you can use the tools you choose to access those other devices over your private Pertino connection.

We recommend the following apps, though many others may work as well:

--------------------- Detailed version ---------------------

Pertino for Android extends Pertino cloud networks to Android phones and tablets, enabling mobile users to securely access files, desktops, and applications from anywhere.

System Requirements:

  • Operating System:
  • oAndroid 4.1.2 and higher (Jelly Bean Only)
  • Hardware:
  • oMinimum screen density HDPI/WVGA 240 dpi
  • oARMv7-A (32-bit) architecture

Key Features

  • From the People section, easily contact people in your Pertino network.
  • From the Devices section, connect to your remote desktops/servers using the integrated experience with Microsoft RDP client.

(You can leverage the Pertino cloud network via other RDP clients as well – but you would need to configure a desktop connection within those apps; our support doesn’t extend to issues encountered with those apps.)

  • From the Files section, connect to file shares on Windows and Macs connected to your Pertino network.   You need ES file explorer on your device to access the file shares.
  • Switch networks easily using the network icon in the navigation panel at the bottom.

Known Issues

  • On certain networks you may encounter a ‘HTTPS connection error’ (418 error) at login.  Workaround – Launch a browser and navigate to any website.
  • On Android 4.4, there are known OS issues with the VPN service.  These are cataloged here:  https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/list?can=2&q=vpnservice&colspec=ID+Type+Status+Owne...
  • oIf you run into connectivity issues on 4.4, please refer to the above link
  • HTC devices that shut down network adapters in sleep mode will result in an inactive state.  Workaround – Disconnect and reconnect the device.
  • In certain instances, where there are several devices on the network, the list under the Devices section might have rendering issues – with certain tiles being blank.
  • If a user is connected to a network and the network is then deleted, the device will go into a state that makes it difficult to reconnect to any network. Workaround -  Reinstall the app.
  • Nexus 5 devices running Android 4.4 (KitKat) on T-mobile networks 3G/4G may not be able to connect to Pertino networks.  Workaround – Use WiFi if available, or
  • OSX file sharing is enabled for guest users only. To enable guest System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Guest User -> Check Allow Guests to connect to shared folders. There is a bug where this setting doesn't catch on the first go, the workaround is to toggle this option. To make sure the option is enabled, go to a Terminal window on your Mac, type cat /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.smb.server.plist and check to see if the following 2 lines are present:
