We have a brand new HP 1810-24G switch that I just replaced an older switch with. Everything worked fine afterwards with the exception of one desktop. It was getting a port activity light on the switch and the computer (running XP) detected it was connected to the network but could not receive an IP address via DHCP. We did everything we could think of including a repair install on the desktop to fix it with no luck. The ethernet cables tested and mapped out good all the way from the desktop to the switch. We could even connect a laptop to the same cable and it worked fine. Finally we tried connecting this desktop to a different port on the switch and it started working. What would cause one particular computer to no get layer 3 activity on 1 port of a new switch?
