Remote access/USB on different IP range

Ok, this may take a little whilte to explain so please bear with me!

In my school, I have an office computer that needs access to our door security system, which is on another VLAN. There is a USB device which recognises key fobs, this is what is needed mostly.

We have tried installing the SQL database and software on the office computer, but it cannot talk to the security system as its on another IP range. I was going to try RDP (with usb local resources), so that it could be done remotely but with the USB device locally in the office, but same problem with IP range.

Unfortunately I really struggle to understand networking! So haven't been able to figure it out. I looked into LogMeIn etc, but we don't want to pay extra for USB support, it needs to be free!

Ok here are the details:

The office PC is on the curriculum VLAN (172.16.10.20 - 172.16.11.250) SM:225.225.254.0

Security system is on our server VLAN (172.16.0.*) SM:255.255.255.0

Default gateway is set to our core switch.

Obviously I cannot just change the Office PC, this has to remain on the curriculum VLAN and vice versa. Also, curriculum computers can communicate with the servers on the server VLAN (but no idea how this is setup). This is why I'm really struggling to understand how the computer can talk to the servers, but not that computer on the same IP range!

One thing I did try, was a USB ethernet adapter! Set it to an IP address on the server VLAN, and it sort of worked, the software and database that is (didnt try the USB remotely or anything). But the next day the office lady couldnt login, as it got confused because of the two IP addresses.

Any suggestions?

I have thought, I could use the ethernet adapter, use RDP with USB support, but is it possible to seperate the network adapter to just one thing? I don't want it messing with the computers access to anything else like it did.

Or maybe something can be changed on the core switch? (HP J8697A)

Really sorry for the long post, but I'm lost with no other access to networking gods!

I'm making the company who setup the security system come in again, but last two times they sent out people who don't understand networking at all, so got absolutely no where! No doubt it will happen again.
