Hello all!
I'm half the IT Dept for a medium-sized law firm, which means I wear a lot of hats - especially since I tend to be the server/network engineer - on top of being the help desk guy, the guy who sets up AV stuff, and even sometimes fixes people's watches (true story!).
As a result, I've fallen way behind in the world of what's new/popular/common in the world of networking (our network almost never changes - I've long since let my CCNA lapse, despite having been so proud of it once, and it would take me a couple hours to setup the simplest of VLANs anymore - just from sheer lack of practice).
To that end: our perimiter router is a Cisco 1721 that - while it does its job well, we're fairly limited with, option-wise as forward-looking options go, being as the device is out of lifecycle (or so I understand).
We're thinking that in the next 3-5 years (my general purchase lifecycle) we might want to upgrade our Internet connection to something faster (as we add more and more web-facing services for clients).
In a nutshell - while I'm happy, in general with Cisco products, I'm curious what other good enterprise-level perimeter routers are out there? The easier to configure the better (yes, I know, GUI interfaces on networking equipment gives people conniptions, but I need all the simplification I can get in my day-to-day).
I tried shopping around on CDW's website, or on Google, but searching for "routers" comes up with a whole mess of home products (mostly wireless routers) that aren't what I'm looking for.
Any input/suggestions from people who live and breathe this stuff is greatly appreciated, so that I can better "shop around" amongst popular brands. :)
