I have a client with an existing Peer to Peer network, with Quickbooks and MS Access files on one of the users PC's (slow machine) being accessed by 7 other users (including some file sharing), all PC's are running windows 7 or XP.
Now of course with the PC doing the server work, being as slow as it is, he wants to upgrade.
So there are multiple ways to upgrade and make the network work more efficient, each having an upside and downside to it, i would love to get some insight on what you guys would say is the best way to go. (keep in mind the network will not be growing to more than 15 clients)
- Moving the shared files, QB and Access files to a NAS drive running on RAID 10 or RAID 6
- Getting a new powerful PC to host the files, with that being the only use of the PC
- Getting a low-end server running Windows Server to host the files on the P2P network
- Getting a low-end server running Windows Server and converting the network from P2P to Domain with of course hosting the files on that server.
- Or any other idea that you think is better than any of the above
