Extending existing network with unmanaged desktop switches

Hi,

I just wanted to run this one by the spiceworks community - its not a subject I know enough about and hope someone can help.

I've inherited a network in a very old building which does not have enough ports to the desk. I have two connected patch panels with Netgear managed switches, which serve the ports at the desk. However, as there are not enough ports at the desk, we have unmanaged desktop switches put in place at the desk to turn what is essentially one port into 7 (with an 8 port desktop switch).

Is this ok? It seems to work ok - although we do have the odd issue when I try to plug a regular device into a port that was once used for one of these desktop switches.
