Not sure if this is the right forum, but I was wondering if this is ok to do. We're doing some network expansion in a branch of our building so I wanted to have a switch in that section instead of running the drops all the way across the building.
It would be an HP 24 port PoE switch and a small UPS for the switch. I have two real options for placement of this switch, one is in a decent sized, but very crowded mechanical/boiler room near the water heaters, and the other would be above the drop ceiling. Is it even ok to have a switch up there? I know you can't pass a power cord through the ceiling, but that won't be an issue.
