Remote Site, Password Missing in 2Wire Router

Hello,

We are currently serving a client who has a server running MS Server 2003 R2 and 10 XP workstations.

We already installed Spiceworks to their server an set it up as a remote site and it is already connected to our central SW installation. The network inventory is showing a group of different devices that are part of the remote network.

We have a problem because the default password for the modem/router, a 2Wire 2701HG-T, was changed and nobody knows it, so we cannot open the port for establishing complete communication with them.

I know we can just do a hard reset on the router and get factory defaults. My fear is that we would lose any custom configuration that the router might have. I'm not 100% sure but I'm guessing it does have a custom config because the current default gateway is 10.0.0.1 instead of the factory default 192.168.1.254.

  • So can you please help me decide if I should perform the reset and when it is done everything will be the same?
  • Since we are working remotely, would we be able to connect again?
  • If the custom configuration is true, do you know a process for backing it up?
  • If the custom configuration is true, would you please tell me how to restore everything as it was before so we can continue our work?

Your help and time is very appreciated, thanks!
