Repeated network traffic through wireshark for network drives

Hello,

In trying to solve a complex software issue across the network, I've come across some repeated network traffic in Wireshark.

This traffic pattern involves the clients querying the server about the network drives specifically. They simply query each drive in succession and then repeat over and over and over again seemingly as fast as they can.

I'm attaching a picture of the relevant portion of the log. When you dig into those packets you can see the folder requested is the network drive itself.

My question is, is this normal network traffic? Or does it indicate an issue with SMB or the shares?

Who has an equally sized network (roughly 10 to 20 computer range) and the other network does not have this repeating pattern of traffic although it does check rarely and get a similar error.

I know it says index_allocation at the end of the...

ICX7650 Replacing virtual interface IP

$

I've added a new DHCP scope on our server 10.40.122.0/24 and then gone onto our switches to add the vlan.  I noticed that the person who set up our switches has the IP virtual interface for vlan 160 set to 10.40.120.0/22 but it should be a /24.  I also see they have a vif at 10.40.200.0/24 that should be a /22 according to our DHCP server's scope.

I'm a relative novice when it comes to these switches, so I didn't want to try to add 10.40.122.0/24 to my new virtual interface since the 10.40.120.0/22 encompasses that address, and I'm afraid I may mess something up.  When I try to replace the two virtual interface IPs that have the wrong subnet mask with the correct ones it gives me an Error: cannot assign broadcast address.  Does anyone know how I can successfully replace these vif IPs so they match the scope on our servers?

Question about transfer speeds for networks & devices

Several questions / looking for advice and your thoughts.

I've been buying cheap SSDs to put into older computers. They make a HUGE difference. I buy HP S700, WD Green, and PNY drives. All about the same price depending on sales for the 120 & 240GB drives (some are 240, others are 256).

Got me wondering about which is better (all seem way better than spinning drives).

I got a drive speed testing app, but it got into number of threads, packet size, seqnetial vs. random read / writes. Tried testing different ways - connected in the PC with SATA, USB external dock, etc. tested spinning drives also. Got loads of numebrs / couoldn't really make sense of things : )

Any easy way to tell 'which is better' without dealing with deciding packet size, threads, etc? on a win 10 machine, can you control the packet size? some sizes were faster than...

ASUS Router loses connection for 30-60 seconds 5-10 times a day

Hi!

I own an ASUS RT-AC86U router, which is supposed to be an excellent router for our home!

I've been having an issue for around 6 months where my router loses internet for30-60 seconds around 5-10 times a day.

After much frustration and annoyance, I have contacted my ISP to get the issue sorted. They have tried replacing my AIO Router (which is in bridge mode and just acting as a MODEM for my ASUS Router) but this did not work.

I was convinced the issue with the internet would be at the cabinet or in the optical cable coming into the house, however my ISP has been able to complete some tests and have concluded that it is the router. Please read the following email :

Good afternoon XXX,

Thank you for contacting our care team, so sorry to hear you are having issues getting online, quite frequently from what our care team told me!

3rd party 10Gbe (copper) SFP module for Extreme Summit X460?

Can anyone recommend a good 3rd party 10Gbe (copper) SFP+ module for an Extreme Summit X460?  I'm running a non-critical Apple cache server on a Mac mini and I sprung for the 10Gbe option.  The 10Gbe modules from Extreme seem unreasonably expensive though.

Trouble mapping network drives over VPN, Windows 10

Hello everyone,

I'm have some problems mapping company network drives using the correct DFS path and credentials. Looking at the server I can see the DFS path is correct. I have also verified my credentials are correct. In the past I've mapped to these drives no problem.

After I enter the DFS path and then my credentials, I am prompted a second time for my credentials at which point Windows tells me it cannot find the network path.

I thought it could be a DNS issue so I tried with the IP address which failed. I was able to ping the server.

Then I clear the credential manager and tried again.

I also checked for Windows updates and even tried rolling back some later updated.

Any other ideas on what the problem could be would help greatly.

Thank you

Problem with VPN clients communicating with third-party VPN subnet

Alright, guys. I'm having an odd issue that I'm not completely sure how to fix. My company uses Meraki appliances for SD-WAN services with an additional non-Meraki IPSec route to an Oracle Cloud provider. Anything inside of our corporate network is able to talk to the cloud subnet without any problems. The issue appears to be when I connect to the VPN and then try to talk to one of the Cloud servers.

When I run a traceroute from a VPN connected computer, I can see the computer pings the default gateway (The MX appliance, which has an IP address for both the VPN subnet and our standard corporate subnet) without any issues, but all traffic stops there. Every other hop just times out. I'm really quite stumped on this one and would appreciate any help you might think to offer.

Single Switch port Provides POE but not Network

Hi

I came home recently to find one of the 5 Ap's i setup last year at my parents was powered but had no connection to the controller.

Looking into it further i found that while the port gave POE to any POE device it did not give any network connection to anything ever, ive done some research and couldn't find any reason for such a problem so what could have caused this to happen? as id like to prevent it happening again...

To be short and sweet, the setup is an edgerouter, into 4 separate vlans on a  T1500-28PCT switch with 5 Omada Ap's and a controller on the Wireless Vlan.

I have a very specific question. I unable to get answers from any online portal like stackoverflow etc.

My public ip is static. From "pathping" command i come to know that my operator have common public ip for all customers.

My actual problem is i want to remotely access my USB drive which is connected directly to router.

Following is the ips by which my pc ping to google dns 8.8.8.8

1. 192.168.0.103(my laptop)
2. 192.168.0.1 (my wifi router)
3. 10.14.47.1 (this is a static ip every time for my cable operator provide to my outer-side of my router)
4. 203.171.243.1 (public ip of my cable operator)
Then the trace is complete.

Now my question if somebody want to ping my laptop from outside network like in Internet, what he will do in Windows command. If any one cant able to access private ip from outside network then how wifi cameras, other...

Connecting Forti Switches

I Have an environment with Forti Devices FG and Swicthes. I was not involved in the initial deployment but i want to add 2 additional switches to the network but i need quick clarifications.

The environment has 3 switches, A Voice switch connected to the Physical Interface of the FG with VLAN 1, A Data switch Connected to another Physical Interface of the FG with VLAN 1, and a Core Switch connected on another Physical interface of the FG also on VLAN 1.

ideally, Only the core switch should have been connected to the FG with Multiple VLANs

My Question: Can i change the VLAN ID of the interfaces of the Voice and Data switch on the FG to VLAN 100 for Voice and VLAN 200 for Data. Then connect Both Voice and Data Switch to the Core Switch?, Then create VLAN 100 and VLAN 200 for voice and Data respectively on the Core switch.

IF i do this will...

Getting Started With SD-Access

All signs point to the fact that, eventually, it may become impossible to effectively manage networks using traditional, manual processes. Software-defined networking approaches are being hailed as viable, long-term alternatives. Do you think they are? How have you "SD-ified" your organization so far?https://cdw.social/2ZjTxod

Buffalo NAS when MOVING folders with files say's you need permission to perform

Buffalo NAS when MOVING folders with files, Windows say's you need permission to perform this action. Try again, skip, cancel. This even happens when moving folders within same root directory.

HOWEVER inside the folder I'm trying to move I can add test folder, I can delete files, I can even rename the folder I'm having problems moving, but again when I try to move it it shows that error.

So the problem seems to happen only if I try to move the files. If I copy instead then it works ok.

Ubiuiti UDMP Error 400 and 500 on multiple devices and browsers.

Hello.

We have a UDMP with around 200 Aps and 40 switches connected.

Apps on phone disconnect all the time on Wi-Fi and cell.

Computers connecting via directly get 400? 500 server errors or a spinning Unifi or white screen.

If I can connect via Unifi cloud controller, it takes a long time to load screens and it will sometimes kick us out.

Have tried multiple browsers with clean cache and incognito modes with the issue persisting.

If it does let us in, changes on the device are slow at best for the change to take if at all.

SSH still works.

We get consent connection errors when attempting on the phone app as well.

The app constantly reset the connection.

Recently we had the to reboot the UDMP to attempt to gain access only for us to get the unable to boot error.

I reset the UDMP to default and loaded a backup only for the controller to get...

Use MS or Google Services

I'll try to keep this simple so it might spark more insight.

New Job at a growing company going through a re-build
two sites.. basically same company.. different roles/departments
One site uses O365, other uses GSuite
~35 computer/tablet systems between the two.

Both sites login as local administrators on the computer and then access the applications with their O365/Google accounts.

Question: Do we continue with GSuite or O365? I would like to see a 'single solution' at some point.

My view is O365 for streamlined simplicity?, as I would like to also manage the hardware through a standard system (AD)...maybe even images for different roles/hardware.
Does Google offer any sort of management that way?

No local servers onsite, but was talk of common storage. Would that be local FS(Windows/Linux) or OneDrive/Sharepoint/Drive?

Why Windows 10 is not showing me notifications when I connect to my VPN?

I've tried setting up PPTP VPN both in Windows 10 settings and using Windows phonebook (.pbk extensions) and whenever I connect to either of them, Windows stops showing me notifications and some apps don't work properly. any idea how I can fix it? I'm running Windows 10 May 2020 update (20H1).

I've tried setting my WiFi to non-metered but that doesn't help. I can't find anywhere to set my VPN as non metered.

Notifications from Mail app, Xbox app, Twitter app, Facebook Messenger etc. I haven't tried anything because I haven't found any related setting in registry, Group policy or Windows settings to fix this problem. when I turn off my VPN, I will be able to see their notifications again when I get one. on Xbox app it's different, I can't see when I unlock an achievement, when I get party invite etc. but when I disconnect my...

Cisco 3850 Boots into Rommon despite having Valid OS

AS the title states I Have a Cisco C3850 that will boot into ROMMON after issuing the reload command. Once in ROMMON, I can input:

boot flash:packages.conf

and the switch will load the OS perfectly fine. Before issuing the reload command I also delete all configs and erase the startup-config as I am trying to start fresh, but after reloading all of the configs and vlans come back. Any advice on either issue would be greatly appreciated.

Configuring VLAN for Multiple Sites on Multiple Switches (HP)

$

I am trying to accomplish segmenting a public WiFi SSID to Vlan 2 on 172.x.x.x to keep it off my 192.x.x.x.

I have 2 sites, both with Sonicwalls, HPE Switches, and UniFi controller at Mainsite shared across tunnel as well as UniFi APs.

Current Setup:

Sonicwall at 2 sites, A and B.
Configuration is setup on Main Site A Sonicwall for VLAN 2 - Complete.

UniFi has SSIDs setup properly as well.

4 HP switches at Main (A) and 2 at site B.
Issue I have is that all of our UniFi APs (7) are randomnly sprinkled across multiple switches so I will have to identify proper ports to assign to VLAN.

Now once i have these identified, my assumption is that I have to mark them as included and untagged to VLAN 2. Is this all that needs to be done or do I need to include the uplink as tagged and assigned to this VLAN as well on each switch?

What if they are...

IP TV Services

Howdy,

Does anyone have experience with business-grade IP TV services?

I'm doing IT for a fitness center and they have TVs with satellite but are looking to change TV service providers. I was wondering whether it's possible get similar TV packages (with similar HD quality and reliability) from an online streaming service? Sort of like Netflix for TV...

Anyone have experience with this or could make a recommendation?

Thank you.

Conference room setup

Wondering how you guys deal with conference room setups and managing the traffic. I'm needing to set up a new conference room, it will include VOIP phones, have a desktop setup in the corner, and a large TV screen and AP for wireless devices. My concern is the traffic, as of course this needs to be high quality. Any tips on how to ensure the quality? Would it be best to setup a VLAN for the conference room to isolate the traffic in that building?
