Slower Connection Via Router vs. Direct-To-Modem

$

my Internet speed is considerably slower via my router then via the modem directly. For a while I would consistently receive 30 mbps by 5 mbps via the router. I could predictably get this speed on a consistent basis no matter how many speed tests I ran. Recently, my cable company upgraded the speeds for customers so I would be able to receive up to 100 mbps by 20 mbps.

Coincidentally, I swapped my modem for a phone modem, but I never ended up using the phone service. instead I purchased in OBItalk ATA and use voip via my Internet service. I mention this only as it may or may not pertain to my problem. still I want to mention that I tested the speeds with and without the voice over IP ATA attached and still receive the same problem.

The problem is that now, the max download speed I received is 19 Mb per second and the max upload speed is...

Cofigure inter VLAN routing

Dear Guys,

I have two vlans. It is connected through L2 Switch. I want these two vlan should communicate with each other. So communication between two VLANs should be happen with the help of L3 device. So that i have L3 switch(Cisco 3560) also.

Now i physically connected the two switches between L2 and L3. And then i configured the IP routes and separate IP address for both VLANs on that L3 switch also.

If i assign that default gateway address in host as corresponding vlan interface IP address i can able to reach another vlan.

But it is not possible. In middle of that we have an Firewall. This firewall is connected with Global MPLS and Domestic MPLS. So all the clients having the firewall ip address as gateway address. So we can't change the default gateway address instead of firewall address.

Kindly suggest me for these type of problems.

HI Guys,

We are looking for help with server and website monitoring software that can inform us of up time and allow us to inform our users of the current situations or issues that may be happening at that time.

We would ideally like it to monitor all servers and all websites that we have.

Using CAT 6 Inline Network Couplers for Extending RJ45 Connections

$

HI All,

I'm faced with a SAN array move in the near future. The move is temporary as we move to a fibre channel array.

Unfortunatley I am faced with having to re-cable all 32 CAT6 from the new SAN location to the iSCSI switch.

I know it's not ideal in a data centre, but could I extend the existing cables using in-line couplers? Obviously its temporary, I'm more worried about any performance degredation or issues others might have had?

Any advice is appreciated guys!

Sonicwall 2400 alternatives to reduce costs etc

$

Ok, I inherited 2 x Sonicwall 2400. One is primary, the other secondary for failover. Plus we have a SRA 1600 for VPN. I am currently paying around 2000 a year in Sonicwall support and license costs combined.

Anyway, I am looking at streamlining the devices and costs, plus I do find the Sonicwall 2400 a pain to administer, and support can also be hit and miss.

So looking at alternatives that are atleast cheaper for license costs. I have to factor in we use a third party support company who spec'd the systems prior to me and went overkill based on my findings so far. I want 2 units, primary and hot failover version that also do vpn.

So far Fortigate look good, and also keen on Meraki as using their AP and love how you configure them but no experience on their gateway stuff eg MX100.

Any advice appreciated.

Dell Switch going bad?

Hello, I have had a few issues yesterday where people lost network and could not logon to the domain. After logging into all of my equipment I see many errors in my Dell Power connect 6248P switch. What concerns me is that yesterday I could not logon to it after I started seeing port failures and handle table overflow errors. I no longer could logon to the switch with internet explorer and with firefox the web GUI was all broken and missing components. I thought maybe it was my flash or jave so I tried on another PC and got the same results. THis morning I could not logon to the switch with either browser. I can logon to the switch with telnet but I am not a console command expert. Now all of a sudden I can logon to the switch only with firefox and everything GUI wise looks good but I have to following logs. Let me know what you all...

Affordable clientless VPN options?

Hi, I'm looking for community input on any options around affordable clientless (IE: web based SSL) VPN options for my client. I am upgrading from an SBS 2008 server to some newer hardware, so they are used to the Remote Web Workplace functionality. I'd like to offer them a similar experience (login from web browser, no VPN client install/config required) and RDS CALs are too expensive. Also familiar with the Barracuda offering, but looking for something more affordable, hopefully in the $300-400 range. This is for ~5-10 concurrent users, there are about 30 different people who might access it. OpenVPN is obviously solid, but requires client install and config on each end user machine, which I'd prefer to avoid. Can anyone suggest an open source or affordable option which has a clientless setup available?

Hi Guys,

Been looking at our Network Gear and I've just realised all of our switches and probably our routers are out of warranty and EOL so we cannot renew it directly via the supplier.

How do you guys handle warranty/EOL Equipment? Renew or Buy a new model?

Cheers!

Procurve intervlan blocking without ACLs?

$

Hello all, I'm in a situation where I was force to buy a little bit less of a switch then I would of liked. I have a Procurve 4204vl with intervlan routing and supports up to 16 static routes I believe in addition. I have several vlans created and they are talking fine. Now I want to create a vlan and extended it across my network for guest wifi. "Wrut-row shaggy, the 4204 doesn't support ACLs". I've heard that you can block intervlan routing in a very messy and haphazard way using source port filtering. Can anyone give any examples of how I'd do this? as well as cli examples? Thanks in advance.

Phone Issue

So we have this old Lucent Technologies phone system. All of a sudden yesterday late morning problems start. If you call the main number, it gets a busy tone, if you dial out of the company, it gets a busy signal... People internally can still call each other within the company. The server that is involved with the phone system is up and running.

I've called our carrier, AT&T and their tech is finally out here looking at all the equipment, but hasn't said anything to me as of yet. After looking at the demarc, he just said "yah, I'm going to be coming in and out for a while." and that was it.

Any idea if its something I might be able to fix myself (as in the actual phone system) or is it AT&T's issue?

Another issue I have is I'm new on staff, the company has never had any sort of IT in house before, so all information is scattered into...

Huge price difference between Broadcom and 3rd party 8gb optics.. Why???

$

Hi everyone,

we are looking to pick up four 8gb optics for our fiber, and in the process of getting quotes there is a MASSIVE difference in price between the Broadcom optics and ones listed as "3rd party".

The Broadcom are coming in at ~37k or ~26k depending on vendor for four.

The "3rd party" are coming in at around 7700 for four.

These would be going into Brocade 5100 units that we have.

Can someone tell me why there might be such a giant price difference? Has anyone dealt with this and which way have you gone? Regrets? Anything?

Thanks

Forwarding Audio through Cisco ASA SSL VPN

Hi All,

Got a feeling this is going to be really trivial but I cannot find it anywhere!  Users log in to a SSL VPN portal to work remotely.  At the moment we can hear sound from the Terminal server which is great.

However, we use Lync for telephony and wondered if we could forward a local USB phone (plugged into the laptop) to the TS.  seems we can do this directly (no VPN) and this also works over the VPN client.  However, on the SSL VPN portal we can only hear sound from the server.  Looks like the phone isn't being forwarded over the SSL.  Printers are working fine.

The syntax on our bookmark in ASDM is below.  Guessing I am missing a parameter but I cannot find it for love nor money.  subbed the ip for x.x.x.x

rdp://x.x.x.x/?RedirectPrinters=true&FullScreen=true

Hello Everyone,

I just stared a new job as Windows Administrator but many Network task has been dropped on my plate. One of it is to make sure network is secure. (Network guy left the job so as of now it's on me)

So I need help from Network experts here.

My company follows PCI and othercompliance. We are good at it and have been passing all the time. But my VP wants to make sure that I do checking and testing from my side (internal and External)

I just know something things from my last job so I have been using some free version tools to do some basic testing from outside.like Nessus, X-Scan and others.

But now I have been told to do somepreliminary penetration testing. I am not sure from where to start and what to do.

As of now I have been saving all the logs from my DC, Exchange, File server, VMware host to acentrallocation but going...

User unable to connect to network drives.

So, we have network drives (which I can't admin since they are stored centrally) which our users connect to via Mac and Windows. Recently, we had a user take their laptop home and have "problems" with it.

These problems were "resolved" by the user (noticing the quotation marks?) so they could get internet connection at home.

Now, they can't connect to the network drives. Not when connected and issued a valid IP address, not when VPN'd in to the building. They just can't see them.

So, I logged in my account on the machine(via the AD) and I got all the drives. Likewise, i logged them in on my machine and they got all the drives.

Despite my concerns that it wouldn't work, I did a windows easy transfer to move them to a new laptop. Surprise surprise, the problem occurred again.

To me, it seems like this is likely a registry entry on the local...

Firewall, SSL VPN, and Antispam Recommended Solution

$

Hi everyone,

I manage approximately 100 workstations, and 8 servers. Currently, I'm using a SonicWall NSA 240 for firewall protection, a Sonicwall SSL 2000 VPN appliance for users to VPN into the network, and a Barracuda 300 Appliance for spam filtering. I've been a SonicWall guy for many years and looking to make a change. For overall security, what should I upgrade to? I don't want to have separate devices for the firewall and SSL VPN. Also with my Barracuda, it just doesn't seem to catch spam that well. What other spam solutions do you recommend or for an added layer to work in conjunction with the Barracuda.

Thanks in advance.

For the last few days I have not been able to browse with Chrome. I can connect with IE and other browsers with no issues at all. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with restarting at the end of each of those. I have statically set my ip address and DNS. I have also ran Anti Virus using AVG and have even uninstalled AVG thinking it was blocking. I've ran Malwarebytes and it didn't find anything. I've gone through many youtube videos trying to fix this to no avail. I get an error code that says .ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED I don't know what else to do at this point.Chrome works fine on my other PC's. I do have another profile on this PC and Chrome does not work on it either. My LAN settings are checked for "automatically detect settings". I don't have any other antivirus installed. Please help. Thanks. I'm running Windows 7 professional....
