I am looking to install a Powerline kit into the house, which has the broadband router and then connect it to the converted barn, which has its own mains supply.
If I fit 1 kit into the house, 1 kit into the barn and then link the two kits together with a cat5 connection, would this work?
The college i go to a couple years ago decided to implement a thing that you can't get out until you access a page and accept an AUP type thing. I understand partly why they do it, but the present setup is really frustrating.
Issues:
Some reason from what I've found the auto direct to the AUP page fails until you enter the URL for their site.
Seems to be specific AP association as when move among the building you will have to accept again even in short time frame.
Seems that your acceptance only remains if connection is active, or very low time out.
I know fairly little about these centralized WIFI systems, i want to know more, i know some of the I.T people at the school so if it can be improved i'd like to suggest changes. I know many people have issue with the auto direct to the acceptance page. One said he just found the AP address...
Can i use my sky router as a modem and add a better wifi router to it
For example you are connecting 3 48 port switches with 144 patch cables. Would you test them? How often do you find a bad new patch cable if ever. Just wondering.....
I am in need of a new KVM in our server room. We only have about 7 machines that I would need to connect to.
Really, the only requirement other than USB is, I would like to have the console run to a desk that is about 50 ft away. The KVM will be rack-mounted but where I am wanting to control it, I would like to have it at a station that I set up. I have only found the console cable be able to go up to 20 ft.
I did look at the drawer ones but they run around 1,000 which is a little steep. Anyone have any thoughts on what they have that works great but be able to reach that 50 ft?
We are using a new ASA-5515 firewall with 5 VLANS for various purposes. On my VLAN1 native I receive a deny UDP reverse path error in varying multiples about every 3-6 hours. It is a random 169.254 address which should be a client out there unable to get a DHCP. Nobody in the building is having access problems so I assume this is some non critical device like maybe somebodies cell phone (although it happends 24/7) or a personal printer.
The question: Is there a way to trace the origin of this packet? I have 4 switches and would like to, at least, narrow it down to a switch if not a port. The things I have tried no doubt have failed because this is a 169.254 non routable address.
Tricks? Suggestions?
Hello,
IT auditors are always force to not use software like TeamViewer for security, but sometimes we need to use it to get support from suppliers, so what is the safe and trusted way to use it?

Hi all!
This is my first post on this forum so be gentle!
I've recently installed some new Sonicwall access points a work. The access pointshave two networks. One for customers which is open and only talks to theoutside world the other is encrypted and allows staff to connect to the domain. So to make this happen they are both on separate VLANs. We use a Sonicwallfirewall to assign the VLANs and then of course config the 3500 switches thatwehave. I've done all this and all works fine.Wehave decided to create anther VLAN to use as a test network. The VLAN will notbe serving wireless access points - we will be connecting computers to it. Theswitch configuration is the same as the other VLANs but any computer thatconnects to this VLAN can't connect to the internet. I tried assigning a staticIP and pinging the gateway which was fruitless....
Can anyone help me with loading up a configuration file from a wordpad doc. to a Cisco ASA5510 Firewall device?
What are the necessary steps or command lines to make this happen?
Thank You!
Need help setting up an Avaya 4850GTS-PWR+ 48 port switch...
I'm having trouble connecting to the console port to set up the switch and assign it an IP and such. It isn't connected to the network or anything, just merely powered on.
I've tried utilizing the terminal emulator with a RJ45 cable connected from the console port to my PC, but I've been unsuccessful.
Any suggestions? Tricks?
Thanks!
This is an issue I've been putting on the backburner.
In my network, what is a tool I can use to see what causes latency to increase.
I have connections to our 3rd party hosted exchange server that take awhile, I have a network printer that has an increased TTL, I have some workstations that can't connect to the network drives and throw-up an error, but connect anyway if you double click on them.
Terms such as "latency" "lag" or "high traffic" are thrown around and I know there have to be some tools to see what the congestion looks like.
Any guides or tools you can throw my way are greatly appreciated...
Here are the symptoms:
A fiber connection between two buildings (less than 100 yards apart) is not working. I have tried resetting the fiber-to-UTP transceiver boxes on both ends. The boxes show connected lights on both the fiber side, and the UTP side. On the local side, the lights for both the fiber and UTP show simultaneous link activity. On the remote side, it the fiber shows link activity timed with the local side, but the UTP does not. The uplink lights are illuminated, but the link activity is not timing with the fiber.
The transceiver is a Raven, and the switches on both ends are Cisco. The local is a 3650, the remote is a small, unmanaged workgroup switch.
Is this a sign of a failed transceiver, or the switch behind it?
Thanks,
Kris
I have setup a simple site to site vpn tunnel between two ASA's but the tunnel won't come up unless I change the crypto map connection type from bidirectional to originate only. I have tried several different debug options but I'm not seeing what could be the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I need to separate wireless traffic for internal users from guest users. I have an access point that supports multi ssid/vlan and a 3com (HP) 2928 switch. To achieve the goal I think to create two vlans with two separate networks. These two networks may end on two firewall interfaces like my schema.
I am new about vlan and I need help to setup vlan on my switch. Is it here someone that know how can I do.
I am looking for a small managed switch for home. I'm really looking for something with 8 ports but I could get by with 5. I have been using several of MikroTik's routing products as of late and I am considering the RB250GS but it only has 5 ports.
Does anyone have experience with this switch? Does Winbox work with it? Any other recommendations on products that fit the bill?
Thanks!
Jeff
I have a Project that got dumped on my lap, as most due...
The network topology is fairly simple.
The switches that were used are Netgear GS752TP's there are about 7 On site. One of them is set to do the routing for interVLAN' traffic, and anything going outside gets handed off to a Barracuda NG Firewall.
The issue I am having is there is 260 devices on the network right now, with potentially 500 more soon. The netgears ARP table i have researched only supports 100 entries in routing mode.
I am wondering if any of you have had this issue before, it has caused the switch to start a broadcast storm, which i was able to throttle down through port security and i set the arp cache to 15 seconds down rom 1200 or something.
So now that I know the 100 ARP entries is not enough for this environment. what affordable options do you guys use for this...
