Two domains one internet connection

I just need some advice on the best way to handle a clients request. They currently have their own windows domain running with a dc and file server for 30 users.
They want to house a new company at the same office location and would like to create a new domain for a server and 5 users. The new company would stay at the current office for about a year and then move to its own office. So that would mean moving the new server and it’s users to that office.
What would be the best way to set this up?

Thanks

Hi All,

Just hoping someone could make sure I've done this configuration correctly. We will be replacing our old 3com default gateway shortly which currently has an IP address of 192.168.2.20 which we will be keeping the same. Please see the running config below:

Issues with VPN connection interfering with SMB share.

Hi All,

I'm running a Windows 2016 server at home to host Plex, and it's connected to my personal NAS device via a local SMB; share which is where all of my media is stored. I moved it to this from an Ubuntu system because I had nothing but trouble with it when it updated. I have plenty of other servers I use to "play" with, but this one I just want to work when I want to watch a film. I work away a lot and can't be bothered having to remote in and fix issues every time I want to watch a film.

I'm also running Cyberghost VPN client, which was also running on the old Ubuntu system. Ironically, given my previous statement, I'm not running into problems with this.

Whenever I turn my VPN client on, it disconnects the connection to the NAS. I have added the NAS' IP address to the "exceptions" section in the Cyberghost client. I assume this...

Setting up a standby Internet connection?

I need to reconfigure the connection to the Internet here at the office. The normal connection is to a cable modem. The second and new connection are to a Verizon Smart Hub. Both are connected via their own ethernet cable.

We recently suffered a multiple day outage with the cable provider.

The new connection needs to be set up and sitting there in the event we need to utilize it. This is my basic question-- Given that I have two ISPs and the firewall is connected via ethernet -- how can it be setup to notice the failure of main one and switch to the other connection?

We have a static IP range from ISP #1. I don't know the story yet with this Verizon device. I am assuming it won't have any. That is not really a problem because our need and traffic from here is outbound. The only inbound traffic we would like to accommodate is an...

TP-Link Access Points won't connect reliably

I have 54 Tp-Link EAP245 access points. I have removed all of my old access points and used the same SSID and Passphrase as the old ones on the new ones. I hoped that our devices would connect without having to reenter that information on over 2000 devices. I am finding about half do not connect. In a room of 20 Chromebooks only 10 will connect. Entering the passphrase does not help. In a room of 10 Windows 10 laptops only 4 connect. In a classroom with a mix, some Chromebooks connect and some laptops connect but most do not.

Any suggestions from here?

Limiting Wi-Fi usage at home

Ive been thinking and researching on the effects of Wi-Fi usage and as most of you know its not pretty. I wanted to know is there anyway I can set my routers wifi setting on a timer, that wifi isn't broadcasting from midnight to 7:00.

I looked at the settings but my router doesnt come with that feature, is there any other software or just plugh and unplug.

Or is there any particular router which provides this feature for home use

If you guys are curious about wi-fi here's a video you can check it out.

Router behind another Router - Access both subnets.

I'm having some difficulty with this setup.

Our office LAN with Cisco RV235 connected to theISP gateway device, which has built-inwifi. The subnet of the Gateway device LAN is 192.168.2.0 /255.255.255.0, with the gateway IP 192.168.2.1. The gateway has the wifi operating on the same subnet and the guest wi-fi operates on subnet 192.168.5.0.

The subnet of RV235 LAN is 192.168.1.0 / 255.255.255.0 with the gateway IP 192.168.1.1

I need devices connected to the 192.168.2.0 subnet to be able to reach the DC in the 192.168.1.0 subnet, specifically the server IP is 192.168.1.100. So, In the example, "LAPTOP" needs to access "SERVER" and "NAS" and "WORKSTATION".

The RV235 has a forwarding rule for DNS (UDP port 53) forwarded to "SERVER" at 192.168.1.100 which is the domain controller. I know the better solution would be to just add an AP to the...

Lots of IGMP traffic

Good afternoon, we recently signed up for alienvault OSSIM and one of the logs that we see a lot are for are extreme switch and it states " multicast ex snoop pkt threshold exceeded on port X" where X is a bunch of different ports. I ran some commands on the switch and it appears most of the mulitcast traffic is coming from a few windows 7 laptops that we have. Running wireshark on those systems I've found that they are related to IGMP Membership. I'm not sure now how to figure out what program in Windows is using this so we can see if it's something we can disable or not. I've tried using process explorer and tcpview from microsoft sysinternals but I wasn't able to see any igmp using those tools. I also ran netsh interface ip show joins which showed some groups but I'm not sure how to use that information. Any help is greatly...

WatchGuard BOVPN No matching route

I have a BOVPN setup between a WatchGuard (HQ) and a FatPipe (BO). The VPN is up however I needed to update the trusted subnets on each end to remove the unused ones. On the WatchGuard under VPN -> Branch Office Tunnels the correct local and remote subnets are showing. When I view the Policy Manager for the WG at HQ I am getting alerts for

"No matching tunnel route for peer proposed local: remote:"

For the removed subnets. The subnets on the FatPipe have also been removed. There are on alerts on the FatPipe. I have saved the configuration a couple of times. I added dummy local:remote networks to see if that cleared the issue but the dummy one just show "Inactive". Is there another place I need to verify the unused networks  have been removed to clear the alert?

UDP Port 1812 not reponding on NPS 2012R2 server

- Issue is between 2 2012 R2 servers

- 1 is running Zoho's ADSelfService; 1 is a DC as an NPS server

- Firewall is disabled on both

- We CAN telnet to port 23 to the NPS server

- Network Access Protection Agent is running on the NPS server

- Sysinternals is showing svchost is the service utilizing this port on the NPS server; when that PID is killed - still can't connect

- ICMP is responding on both

Thank you in advance for your response.

Static IP from ISP setup and basics.

I have 5 static IPs from my ISP, a Trendnet managed switch, and 20 computers on the network. I’m trying to understand the basics of using the static IPs. Is there a way to assign the static IP to my switch and then have the switch assign the computers IPs via DHCP? Or would I need to configure each computer?

FW Trunking

Hi everyone,

Quick question. I recently installed an Asus AC-66U router with Tomato firmware. I setup untagged VLANs on each port since I only planned on using 1 VLAN per port. I ran a cable from port 1 (vlan 10) to a switch. The switch was default configuration. When plugging in a desktop to the switch I pulled an IP address and could ping the gateway but couldn't ping any of the devices on the other subnets. I resolved this by setting the uplink between the FW and switch to a trunk port and setting all the ports on the switch in VLAN 172 but I'd like to know what caused this not to work? The traffic should have all been tagged while going across the FW interfaces since a tag would have been put on the traffic once it reached the gateway and when the traffic goes back to the switch the VLAN tag would be stripped since it's an access...

Changing IP scheme. Yay or nay?

Hi all,

just a little background: small company (for which I've been working during the last 5 years and counting), got recently acquired by a bigger company.

We've always had a 172.16.0.0/16 network (which I found already in place when I joined and which both my former IT director and I found absolutely reasonable, apart from me thinking that a /16 network was and still is too big for the current size of the company).
Now, my fellow IT operators of the parent company (I'm not alone anymore, yay!) plan to migrate everything to a 192.168.x.y/20 network as "that's how things always worked here in the parent company and compliance between the various sites is key".

I wouldn't be against it myself, but I'm a little scared that it may cause some trouble (some DNS entries must be redone I guess, all the printers and all the devices with fixed IP...

Maximizing Throughput

I have a client who recently upgraded Internet speeds to 500Mbps. He wants to get those same speeds on the desktop.

The client only has a router, and a switch. The client's are connected directly to one switch. I'd have to replace both.

Does anyone have products that they can recommend?

I have a single internet connection from Comcast with a block of 12 statics. I want to split them between to separate companies. Each company will have 6 Public IP Addresses. as shown in the diagram below. I've tried this configuration but it does not work.
Can someone tell me how i would configure the two USG's to share int internet connection but provide isolated local networks?
Thanks everyone!

Slow network troubleshooting

I've got one office here that is a satellite to an office in another building, where their app server is located. They access the app via IE (only browser that works with it), and connect to the main office through a VPN. It makes sense that the performance at the satellite office would not be as good as the main office, but they really suffer.

What tools do you suggest to find where the problem(s) is?  Fiddler? Something else?

Setup.

Linksys vpn router.
4 workstations
VOIP

for last two days users are loosing internet connection. They are reporting getting orange warning sign on the network icon in the right bottom corner.

All are setup as static IP with DNS pointing to router primary and to Google alternate
all can ping the router and each other. Can't ping anyting outside
The VOIP is working fine when internet on workstations is down.
I can login remotely to the router no problem.
As soon as I go to diagnostics in the router and ping one of the affected workstations, it starts to work. for few / several hours

I tried changing from static to DHCP
Turning off firewall on the router and each station.

totaly lost with this one. any ideas would be greatly appreciated

THanks!

Why shouldn't I...? (Inexpensive network switches)

I have old Enterasys SecureStack switches in our server room. I need 10G uplink capabilities, and even the SFP ports on these are limited to 1G.

Looking around I had planned on using Extreme (who bought Enterasys) 220 series edge switches, with some X620 TOR/core switches. Some light routing happening there, with the rest happening in the firewall.

But then I stumbled on Ubiquiti. They seem to be far less expensive with similar features (at least, the limited features I need.) So why shouldn't I go that route, save some substantial money and still meet my needs?

I need a minimum of 8 48 port POE switches and the TOR/Core switches to aggregate them. There is lots of fiber between parts of the building as well. That fiber was recently upgraded to support 10-40G. Multiple vlan support and LAG ports (duh) is about it. I'd like to have the...

Sophia XG Transparent Firewall

Hi there fellow Spiceheads :-)

I’m trying to configure the XG firewall as a Layer 2/Transparent Firewall.

I’ve followed the Sophos guide to bridge ports (WAN/LAN) but I’m unable to obtain any form of connectivity to my network. I’ve tried setting a static IP address but no luck.

My desired topology looks like this...

Modem[89.x.x.x]>Gateway[172.18.x.x]>LAN switch and WAP[DHCP, DNS, AD]>XG[Layer 2 f/w 172.18.x.12]>Windows 8 Industrial[172.18.x.24]

I just can’t get any connectivity to that 8 Box.

Should I be bypassing the WAN port and bridging two LAN ports???

PLEASE HELP...I’M CONSIDERING OPENWRT INSTEAD 😂😂😂
