I will admit that I have not done any investigation and am turning to this forum first, but I just discovered something that baffles me a bit.
When I ping the IP address of a server that is on my LAN, the TTL=128
When I ping the same server by name, the TTL=128
When I ping the IP of my default gateway, the TTL=64
When I ping 8.8.8.8, the TTL=49
I would expect the opposite. Does anyone have any ideas as to why the internal device would reply so much slower than google's DNS server?
