Intermittent network drops

Hi i have a business network that i'm trying to fix but the users are experiencing very odd issues, hopefully someone can help me out. so began in February. All off a sudden network starting cutting in and out,Ethernet and wireless, modem is in bridge mode connected to a router(which is 10/100), then from router they have a 25 port switch (10/100/1000) connected which distributes to the users or to another switch that distributes to multiple devices in certain offices, wireless router connected to the router. they maintain access to the local server, also still being able to view live stream of CCTV cameras, but for some reason the internet cuts out, webpages will say they cant load but then load a second after. users are on windows 10.

Changed the router to (10/100/1000), still random network outages, so changes were reversed back to...

NetMotion TLETS connectivity problems

I'm looking for some guidance on what to do next. I have not engaged NetMotion yet, but have exhausted TLETS support; they are stumped.

Issue: Laptops connected directly to network via ethernet successfully launch and maintain connection of TLETS software. When connected via wifi+ netmotion, tlets is slow to open, login and disconnects, if it successfully connects.

Environment: I have three laptops for use in car. Connectivity is provided by MiFi devices and the computers connect back to the office via NetMotion. Static IP addresses are assigned to the laptops by NetMotion and those IP addresses are in a NAT table on a router, mapping to specific IP addresses used by TLETS.

Steps taken: Since taking on this customer, they have not had a successful configuration. Initially, we setup a Windows RRAS server for remote access which works fine...

Problem with Routing

I have a router that has an IP address ex: 192.168.13.2/29 that is plug into an HP Switch 5412Rzl2.

I assign an IP address of 192.168.3/29 to the network port that the router is plug into on the switch.

When I try to ping 192.168.13.2 from the switch I get request time out.

The goal is to take the traffic from the router through the switch to a firewall interface so I can route traffic out to the internet.

VPN connection issues on Virtual Machine - Interruption/Disconnection

I use a Kali Linux Virtual Machine to connect to a VPN for penetration testing. In April of this year I purchased an identical replacement laptop with different OS and more, faster SSD

Original: 14" Lafite Pro, Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

New: 14" Lafite Pro, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

Since purchasing this new laptop I've had constant VPN connection issues with both VPN clients that I use (OpenVPN and ForticlientSSL VPN). The VPN connection is either interrupted or killed. Open VPN will successfully reconnect automatically around 80% of times, whereas Forticlient VPN requires a manual reconnection. The interruption/disconnection seems to occur when sending traffic, such as performing intense port scans; however, I've also witnessed many interruptions when no manually generated traffic is being sent. I am using the identical WiFi broadband...

Should I use IP or DNS address for VPN clients to connect to?

I need to set up a VPN server in the company for remote work. I usually used IP for that purpose, but it seems easier to use VPN. DNS provider is safe, but I still wonder if using DNS names for VPN server is a good idea

Any suggestions and advices are welcome!

Remote building WiFi not assigning IP on subnet

We have a client that is using UniFi for their wireless. They only have about 20 client devices between the two buildings outside of the public WiFi on a separate subnet. They have the main building and a remote building. I use "remote" loosely, as the remote building is only about 100 feet from the main building. They have a fiber optic run from the main building to the remote building. For the link between buildings, they're using an ad-netAN-UMGSM-AS-20converter that we installed last year.

At one point last year, the remote building lost connectivity with the main building due to a faulty switch. We installed Cisco SE2016 switch from our spares shelf temporarily that was supposed to be replaced (along with several other projects including a server upgrade and Windows 10 Migration) in their offseason, but the manager with whom we...

combining 2 LAN networks

I’m trying to combine 2 small networks together and am running into issues.

The first network consists of 5 devices with static IPs cabled into a small netgear switch with my Mac Pro. The second is a WiFi network of a couple of APs run through a EdgeRouter X that’s also assigning IPs to clients by DHCP.

The Wifi network has its DHCP range set to 192.168.1.38 - 192.168.1.246. The EdgeRouter itself is at 192.168.1.1.

The other network has its devices IP manually set to 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.6

What i’m trying to do is access one of the devices on network 1 through network 2. so that when I type 192.168.1.3 into a browser on network 2 i can access the control page for a device on network 1, currently though it doesn’t work.

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to set this up properly?

Network Compliance

Network device configuration review
o Network diagram review and modification
o IP assignment & VLAN review
o Prepare Hardening document for Network devices
o Implement hardening document
o Re-configure network devices / Switches at all MC3 locations.
o Physical & cabling security of network devices
o Implement web filtering (site blocking)
o Network Device Asset register
o VA Scan for Network devices. Implement VA
o Vendor should provide latest software for network monitoring.
o VLAN configuration for all three locations.

I need good idea how to do the above things .

how to know all the IP address a particular URL is communicating from PC

I am in a serious dilemma as i am trying to install a gift card interface on to my POS system. The Gift card provider has given a URL to whitelist from the firewall. The issue is even though we whitelist the URL from the firewall its not communicating. Its is throwing me the error.

What i noticed is if i opened full internet access from the firewall, Gift card starts to communicate. I have checked with the Gift card provider and they said its only this particular URL needs to be whitelisted nothing else.
Could you guys, experts please guide me on this as my project is on hold due to this.

I have POS servers running in Windows 7 and Windows 10.

Intune, Windows 10, Always on VPN , non-MS vpn device

Hi - I am trying to migrate our remote users from DirectAccess to Always-On VPN. We use Intune (or whatever it's called now) to manage remote devices.

I have found several articles on how to do this using RRAS. I would rater have the client's VPN endpoint to be our Watchgaurd edge appliance.

Does anyone have an article explaining how to use Always On VPN with a third party VPN endpoint?

seamlessly switching beetween nics from different providers

Hello I am new at internet networks, I have question. Is there a way to seamlessly switching beetween NICs with differend ISP on my computer? I tried teaming with PowerShell but it's only working when I am teaming NICs from same ISP, Wi-Fi and Ethernet from same router for example. I have Wi-Fi connection on one NIC, Ethernet from another ISP on second NIC and cellular network on third NIC (I have special pc with cellular adapter) I want to bond or something this NICs and keep IP session on remaining NICs when I disconnect one NIC and then keep same session when I disconnect two NICs.. I need this to some project.

Cat 8 cabling

Hi

A friend is moving into a new place and is wanting to cable up the place, he says he wants to 'future proof' it so is wanting to go with Cat 8 cables and run from his router to gigabit switch upstairs and then to a face plate in what will be his office,  The only face plates that seem available are up to Cat 6, i know Cat 8 is backwards compatible so does anyone think that he should see any negative impact using this?

also ive seen you can buy Cat 8 Keystone jacks, do these connect into a basic face plate?... and would this be an option to use?

thanks for any help with this

Infrastructure Internet Access

Hi all,

Does anyone know of any software that I could use as a proxy for our Server infrastructure?

My scenario:

Our infrastructure equipment e.g. esxi hosts and SAN are in our 10.x.x.x network which is separate from our general network 172.x.x.x, this is done via Vlans.

Our 10.x.x.x network doesn't have internet access due to security. I have been asked to find a way to give them internet access for security updates and monitoring ect. but without actually allowing them to directly connect to the internet.

I did some research and it looks like a proxy might be the answer?. I could have a proxy server with internet access and then point the servers/SAN to that?.

When looking online I can't seem to find any software that will do that, I seen that Windows server has a web proxy role available but doesn't seem like what I need.

Any suggested...

Check historical throughput/load of a switch?

We have a Cisco Catalyst 4507R+E core switch that we are looking to replace.

We currently have nobody on staff who is well versed in networking, so we will soon be getting a company/consultant to help.

However, I still would like do some basic research on my own just so I can have some idea of whether what we are being told is reasonable.

Specifically, I would imagine throughput/load on a current switch would be a good indicator of which class of switch needs to replace it. My (potentially wrong) gut feeling is that the current core switch is extreme overkill, based on what a network engineer told me a long time ago who briefly did some work on the switch, but I would like to see some of that data myself, if possible.

So is there a "show" command or similar I can run that would give me clues for what a typical load/throughput looks...

What makes a networking brand stand out to you?

Let's face it. There are a lot of options to choose from when it comes to networking equipment/brands. And, that's why I think the Community is such a great place to be because you can ask other SpiceHeads about their preferences allowing you to make informative decisions.

Because of the glorious (and sometimes beautifully blunt) nature of the Community, I feel confident that I can get some really great feedback from you all. With that being said, I ask...

What makes a networking brand stand out to you? Are they the products themselves? The brand's customer service? Good product reviews?

And, you know what? While we're at it, what do you think about D-Link as a networking brand?

Any thoughts are helpful!

NIC says unidentified network

Two Dell laptops, different models, Windows 10 1909, both cannot talk to our network using Ethernet cable. A 3rd newer model Dell laptop works fine with same Ethernet cable and switch. What I've tried so far:

1. Joined both laptops to domain and then unjoined (we don't normally use them domain joined). Didn't work while domain joined or unjoined afterward.

2. WiFi works fine and can release/renew Ethernet NIC with DHCP IP just fine but only if wifi is turned on.

3. Ran network troubleshooter

4. Uninstalled Symantec Endpoint Protection

5. Disabled Windows Firewall

6. Set incoming/outgoing TCP/UDP exceptions in Windows Firewall for port 389

7. Change Windows Firewall to default settings

8. Disabled power management for NIC

9. Made sure system time is correct

10. Uninstalled everything from network stack in device manager and rebooted.

11. Deleted...

How do you perform a network assessment?

Spiceheads,

I am tasked with various projects in my position, one if which are network assessments. These will usually have a goal of performing discovery on the networking hardware and design in an environment, and often includes networking, servers, storage, environmental, power delivery, applications and client devices. Some assessments require more detail than others, and some require emphasis on certain subjects such as security or viability to move some or all services to cloud platforms. I'm sure many of you are familiar with this process, so I'm curious how other spiceheads complete such a task.

What type of information do you collect about hardware and software and how detailed?

What are you favorite tools you use to collect data?

If part of the assessment include an on-site assessment in infrastructure, what types of things do...
